Could have been worse, he could have started vertical and then moved onto horizontal, so that the picture came out on its side.

I think it's phone manufacturers responsibility to program in some sort of prompt when a user starts trying to record a vertical video that informs them about the error of their ways.

Yeah this is pretty old by Internet time standards. I think self defense stops when the threat is eliminated. They guy kept beating them after they were down. I think that is where the law will see the line was crossed.
My opinion for what it matters, couple hood-rats thought they'd beat down the McD employee for a good laugh. When they got beat down only then did the spectators give a damn. Where was the screaming bitch when the hootrats assaulted the McD employee? Right her mouth was shut in fear of her own beat down from said hoodrats. I would guess both hoodrats will be a bit more careful about the next person they assault. Some lessons come hard in life; like respecting others.

I love how the other McDonalds employee just allowed them to jump over and run after the guy. You see him thinking like "shit should i grab them or what?" but then when the guy defends himself then the employee jumps in......
