I am looking at promoting some upcoming events via Twitter's sponsored tweets but also via celebrity tweets as well.

Has anyone had any experience and/or advice with sponsored tweets?

I am looking at http://sponsoredtweets.com/ for celebrity accounts.

Keep your money in your pocket. Build up your own accounts within your niche & you'll have much better success.

Only thing is the first event (musical) is in two weeks.

I am running my own campaigns with Tweet Marketing Robot as well but I don't want to leave any stone unturned.

Well that all depends on what you're promoting, a tweet from a celeb can be far more productive than a tweet from a 'regular' account under the right circumstances.

That was exactly my thinking.

Because the events I am promoting are music in nature I was thinking along the lines of sponsored tweets by celebrity musician.

I think it could work quite well, mind you this is only opinion rather than being based on any experience - I've only ever used SponsoredTweets as a seller.

Is it a local event or is it likely to pull in visitors from afar? If it's local I'd suggest targeting local bands with a decent following that play the same sort of music.
