I would rather just learn myself using the resources on the internet. This site provides a ton of direction, advice, and people who take the time to offer help to other users completely free of charge. Most people don't need to bother with paying someone to teach them things they can learn for free.

Ask anyone who works in professional services for example (consulting, lawyers, finance, etc) and they will tell you its incredibly common in corporate culture. I might argue that the overwhelming majority of wildly successful people have had a "mentor" in one way or another.

I agree as well.

Sometimes, you don't really need a mentor. Just find a group of people who are slightly more successful than you. That's what I've been doing the past few years and I owe all my recent success to it.
 
I didn't have a mentor. People at BHW post a lot of interesting and useful tutorials, you don't need a mentor ;)
