The problem with drinking before you go under the needle is that you thin out your blood and the ink might not stick as well as it should without alcohol, so I wouldn't advice to do so.

Yes, that's kinda true I mean every person is different, I don't think a drink will be much of a problem, but if you overdo it's definitely possible. Regarding the pain, it differs from person to person. Me personally: I was so damn hyped that the last thing I would worry about was the pain
