Anyone from Malaysia/Asia?

500-1000 dollars all included/month.

Haha thanks, I've actually decided to Thailand after doing further research. Your post only verifies it. Been to Thailand? What place do you recommend there?

The beaches are an obvious answer, but if you want to stay focused on IM there is a good community going on in Chiang Mai. Either way Thailand is cheap to live in and cheap to get around so you can try out different locations. Bangkok is super hectic.

Dude, great. How can I contact this community?

Stay away from Malaysia. Heading north to Thailand or south to Bali but not Malaysia.

1.) Its an Islamic country, so the population doesn't party.
2.) Alcohol is super expensive, see #1, its against their religion.
3.) No hot chicks since they all like to wear head scarves and burkas.
4.) The Indians, Malays, and Chinese all hate each other; so much so that they have 1Malaysia ads around town to promote harmony.
5.) Terrible public transit system in KL. Terrible.
6.) SLOWEST INTERNET IN ALL OF SE ASIA. <== this one's the killer.

-Been in Malaysia since January 2015.

I'm Malaysian people.

This statement is 80% garbage.

1. There are bunch of clubs, bar, disco in Malaysia you cant even imagine. Even Malaysia is a top country for human trafficking.
You can see bunch of thai, vietnam, china girls come to Malaysia and work in the bar/disco even as pros.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvGRMWYPejA <-- this almost everywhere in Malaysia. Police doing rush, by next week it will opened back like usual after paying some money to the police.

+Each 3 - 5 STAR hotel in Malaysia are place for prostitute business.
The amount of this private biz are more bigger and more many than thailand. But because you just dont see it. And it's protected by a retarded corruption Police and politician, even though Malaysian it's an islamic country.

2. Yes.

3. Only malay, even though not all malay girls wearing burqa, and other type of race girl like chinese, indian, and other type of sarawak/sabah race dint wear burqa/scarves.

4. They hate each other, but not really hate like kiling each other. They still talk and working together like nothing happen. Just typical racist hate between white and black in U.S

5. Maybe.

6. Depend on your location. In the city, You can get 100Mbps net connection.

But well in term of political, me also hate my own country, but now I in South of thai.

For me, thai is a good country for entertainment purpose, cheap living cost, but not for a living.
Thai police is super more corruption than Malaysia. Local people are rude, and local people always try to cheat you, unless your face is similar to thai.

Mafia everywhere.

Bad infrastructure.

And good luck having a conversation with local using English.

I second PinguSpy...Malaysia is not that bad mate. I'm not as familiar with life in KL (traffic is insane there, though), but you wouldn't want to go there if looking for a beach anyway. :-)

Check out islands off the mainland like Penang (Predominantly Chinese [Hokkien] population, amazing food and culture--good beach in Batu Feringghi), Lankawi, or Rawa. Been there a bunch of times...people are all super-nice, great exchange rates, everyone speaks English, etc. Never had problems with internet speeds.

I would avoid cities in Malaysia like Johor, which is on the border of Singapore....it can get a bit dodgy there.

Better yet, why not tour between Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam since you're right in the area?

Have fun!

Thanks dude. I have dediced to go to Thailand. Nothing against your country PinguSpy! I'm sure visiting it is worth the experience.

Thailand is nice.. check kanchanaburi area. some of Thailand unique tourism attractions are in there.

ChiangMai in Thailand is nice but there are no beaches in that area. I was there 2 years ago and planning to go back again this October.
If you are planning to visit Philippines, let me know.

What a BS.

1. Yes, it is an Islamic country, but about 40% of the population isn't Muslim. Plus, the country itself doesn't really follow Islamic guideline. Nightlife in Malaysia wasn't so bad.
2. Price of alcohol in Malaysia are at decent price, not too cheap, not too expensive. Unless if you're going to some 5 star nightclub. Compared to Bali or Thailand, yeah I agree it's expensive.
3. Wrong. About 60% of muslim in Malaysia wear scarves and burkas. Like I said, about 40% of the population isn't muslim. So there's more than half of the population of woman not wearing scarves and burkas.
4. Nope, not all of them hate each other. Like pinguspy said, "Just typical racist hate between white and black in U.S". There's still a lot of nice people around.
5. Terrible public transit system in KL? Idk what are you comparing to, but for southeast asia, public transport in KL are quite good in my opinion. Traffic in the city are always sucks. Bali, Bangkok, Singapore, are all the same.
6. I don't know if you lived in a jungle or what. Most places in KL have a good internet connection. May not be the fastest compared to worldwide, but for KL, totally not slowest in SEA. Decent internet speed in my opinion, and you could get high speed internet connection from some ISP.

Tbh, I don't really like my country very much, but most of the thing you said are bullshit.

To OP, Since you're looking for nightlife and nice beach, I suggest you head to Bali or Koh Samui. There's some clean beach in Bali but a bit far from the city, about 2-3 hours drive. Beaches in the city (Kuta) aren't clean at all same goes to Koh Samui. You can rent a decent house in the city for around $500-$700 per month. Alcohol are really cheap, you can get one can of beer for $3-$5 in 4-5 star nightclub. Honestly, I don't think there's any nice beach with nightlife especially in SEA. If there's a nightlife, the beach won't be clean.

If you're still heading Malaysia, and looking for alcohol for a low price, ask some local people to help you, there's a lot of tax free liquor store all around the country. If you're visiting KL, I know some tax free liquor store, price aren't much difference with Thailand or Bali.

Plus, most of the beaches in Sabah and Sarawak are clean. Not sure about nightlife.

@ Everything else, yeah, if you look for it you can find it but why bother? Party? Bali or Thai Islands > Malaysia. Internet speed? HCMC or BKK > KL. Girls? Depends on your taste but Stockholm > the rest of the world.

You're only offended because you're malaysian. Get over it.

Malaysia is the 27th country I've been to and, trust me, its no walk in the park. Not the worse and not the best but definitely not somewhere in the middle. Its down there next to Vietnam (where you can't text on the street or else your iPhone will get snatched by a dude on a moped) and Macedonia (have you ever heard of anything from this country?! Yeah, its basically a field. I've been there and seen it).

As for Thailand, I've been to both Chiang Mai (1 month) and the islands (2 weeks island hopping). If you're going for work, I'd recommend BKK or Chaing Mai. Both have lively IM scenes with BKK being more expensive than Chiang Mai but its also a major metropolitan area.

For Chiang Mai, head to the Walking market on sundays in Chiang Mai when you're there! Its delicious. You can find IM-ers everywhere in Chiang Mai. Punspace, the cowering center, is also a big hangout.

Your number 5 and 6 statement is somehow true and the rest is wrong since I'm also from Malaysia..

Neighbor of M'sia, SG here. Feel free to ask me anything.

It's a tiny red dot that offers you everything in exchange of ... money!

One of my friend of friend (thai people) died last week in thai. Headshot by mafia. :(

My main problem in thailand is always the mafia. They are everywhere.

Just to add some info on this

1). Yes, it is an islamic country and they have this so-called "religious police" to mind your personal business. About the party thing, you still can party though. There are many places where you can hang out to party till you drop lol.

2). Indeed alcohol is expensive but you need to ask the locals for cheaper one

3). This is not true however stay away from muslim girls (refer point 1)

4). Yes they do hate each other because of the political landscape but not to the point of killing each other.

5). I have no comment on this but by next year there will be an increase for the fare up to 55%

6). True and expensive too. I have proof on this but I'm too lazy to add an attachment

Additional info: there are a lot of places in Malaysia that you can live a life that you want but stay away from KL city. They have more immigrant there than the locals and they take away local businesses too.

Am from thailand and want to say that everything in thailand is cheap with good internet for IM but right now the military is fuck the country and they plan to use single gate way before in order to access everyone information.
The bad thing about thailand is that they have strong copyright law.
The good thing is if you have a lot of money than nobody can do anything to you even you are doing illegal business .
