anyone familiar with SimpleMachines Forum + Paid Subscriptions Mod?

is anoyone of u familiar with SimpleMachines Forum & Paid Subscriptions Mod?
i would like to collect some experience by user who already worked with it before i start with it.

maybe some of u know similar tools to setup a membership forum with free software.

i am happy about every answer.

damn... i just recognize that the latest version of SMF is not compatible to the subscription mod... any other ideas about running a forum (like smf or phpbb) with subscription. or is it impossible without any software-investment?
