Anyone ever used Reddit for building up a website?

I am looking to start a side project soon and was planning on using Reddit as my main source of traffic. This isn't a affiliate site in any way. It is going to be a journalist type site and I've got a lot of ideas.

Anyway, I am definitely going to be looking to possibly buy Reddit upvotes. Anyone here have any experience with that? Upvotes are everything over there.

Note - I have heard that Reddit traffic doesn't convert very well. It's not about the money, but instead building up a brand.

I've dabbled in it years ago, and its really difficult to prevent from getting ghosted. As long as its not something obvious with a ton of ads,landing page etc. You could probably get away with being active on Reddit, linking a ton of other stuff and every once in a while linking your own site.

If you only link your own site, is it considered spammy? Does it kill organic traffic, or will it incur Google penalties?
 
Reddit traffic does converts its just the CR would be very low.
Instead of purchasing votes everytime better if you purchase some accounts and Hire a VA to manage them for you or you can do the same task yourself.

Feel free to let us know how it goes for you.
And Yes if you keep on linking only 1 site then it will be considered spammy over reddit.

Thanks for clarifying this for me. So it would be best to post relevant information from the same niche, then occasionally post your own sites and posts?

Yes better if you post different articles from your niche to look legit.
But again reddit mods are very active and sometimes they look through so post links from normal buffer sites too.
 
There's a way to do this without burning your site. Pm me I have hundreds of Aged accounts with karma and I supply up votes that will land you on the front page for sure.

This is how I build my sites and build sites for really popular websites.

Reddit has clear rules.
Posts of your website should be under 10% of your total posts
 
Best way to get over the 10% of posts is to do this:

An aged reddit account with karma
Two or three Subreddits in different niches
IFTTT

News Website RSS Feeds > subreddit
r/funny r/gifs r/pics > subreddit
Viral meme website > subreddit

I post funny, gif and pics to a throwaway subreddit everyday when a topic hits hot post it posts to my subreddit.

The subreddit gets some traffic but essentially just links straight back to the first subreddit that it came from. News feeds post a certain topic to the subreddit of my choice.

That gives enough posts and a few karma throuhout the day to play around with personal website posts.

Been doing it for over 6 months.
 
I've used Reddit and have gotten about 60-80k pageviews on three occasions and about 20k on multiple occasions. But I hadn't bought upvotes since, as it's been mentioned, I didn't want to get ghosted.

I also agree with what's been said about keeping your website links at 10%. I hadn't taken this into consideration and used my 2yo account and it had gotten ghosted.

So I figured I'd use Reddit as a typical user would. Posting interesting links and adding value and it worked out rather well. I've had a bit of trouble getting traffic from subreddits with 1m+ subs so I kept it at those with about 100k-300k ( because those were the one in my niche ).

All in all, those times I had 60-80k pageviews the CTR was really low. But, then again, my website posts were list type posts.
