Anyone ever tried a large scale vanity badge backlink building campaign?

I'm considering a large scale backlink campaign using vanity badges.

You've probably seen them on blogs already. "Top 20 Gaming Blog", "Best Cooking Blog of 2019" etc.

You send them an award badge and a small amount of website owners will place it on their website for free, simply to show their users this award they've won.

Its a decent way of getting some nice homepage links from what I can see, and as far as I can tell Google doesn't seem to mind too much either, relatively speaking.

Has anyone ever tried this before? If so what were your results?

That's a good idea that, in my opinion, works well for big sites with a lot of brand awareness... but might be trickier to pull off for the rest of us.

The key relies on providing a good enough incentive for people to take action and place the badge on their site.

Have you thought about dealing with this barrier?
