that there's no 7-box for nyc marketing, nyc advertising, ad agency nyc, or any variant of the sort?

Try other major cities too. Same deal. Unless there's a mecca of advertising I don't know about, my thinking is that G got a little noncompete type of thing happening here....

What the heck is a 7-box?

The largest size of map listing that shows up in normal SERPs.

type in "chicago pizza" or something of the like and look at the map that comes up.

It's when the map shows above organic results.

Search for boston dog walker, you'll see the list of links phone #s and addys

Search for boston ad agency, well I think her slip is showing...

So im assuming that it is the google map that shows above the oraganic results would be the 7box, NYC has alot of that every other search I make has that box in it I can type in pizza and that box is in there.

That's right- everything you search NYC has a 7box. So don't you think it's weird that NYC advertising, NYC marketing, and NYC SEO all do not?

My point is that it looks like Google is excluding the Maps listings from businesses that offer services which G is monetizing. Why would they want to advertise other advertisers when you could just sign up for Adwords?

When I change the city and keep advertising, the 7 box doesn't show either.

Yep, it's been this way for quite some time. I think G00gle got hold off Google Maps Cash or the other related IM products. All related type of services: marketing, internet marketing, web design, etc don't get a 7 box...sort of.

There is no 7-box for nyc marketing, but there is a 7-box for "marketing in nyc." I haven't figured out why there is a distinction as far as G00gle is concerned.

there is no 7 box for my city for web design houston

Great catch on the "marketing in" tweak. Totally obvious but sometimes those are the ones that get past me... I can't imagine either why G makes the distinction but it works for me, time to start my maps cash experiment!
