Anyone driving for uber?

I signed up for Uber a few days ago, and I've been driving in order to get the $300 bonus for signing up (in Australia). Basically I have to complete 30 trips, and then 10 more so my brother can get paid the $400 referral which I get half of.

After that, I don't think I'll continue, perhaps on some weekends where the "surge" might make it worthwhile... but so far, this is probably the most deceptive bullshit I've ever seen from such a massive company. So far, my average is probably around $5 per hour, with all the waiting around, driving to passengers, petrol money, their 25% slice off the top, wear and tear, GST, and shitty little 10km trips that total around $10.

If I was to put it in SEO terms, this is the equivelent of a massive churn and burn operation. Profitable for the short term, but I can't see how Uber will thrive in the coming years with so many drivers dropping off and the word spreading about their pay cuts as well as slashing of fares.

Always good fun to see a huge company burn themselves to the ground.

I'm sure it will carry on for a few years until they implode with idiots thinking they can make easy money off it. It is easy, but you're really paying for a "job" instead of getting paid.

I'm sure Uber is even greedier in the states and elsewhere, what are your experiences?

I heard they take 28% of sales, and gas is expensive as hell + increase km and traffic is lame. I dunno :/
 
Actually it was boosted from 20% to 25% in March for new drivers, just so they could squeeze a few more dollars out of the workers who can't do the math. Uber relies on dumb fucks to keep itself running, but once people wake up and see through it all it's going to be downhill from there. Actually, it went downhill when they also decided to slash the rates by 20%, which just makes it that much more shitty for the drivers. It's not viable in any way at all. They will either have to unfuck themselves and raise fares a little bit, or or reduce their commission, both of which would be very reasonable. For such a large company, I don't know why they would continue to screw the drivers right up the anal passage.
 
How hard is it to sign up with them? I heard the other day you can do part time driving for them. Of course they take a big commission but it still sounds pretty cool- especially if you really need work.
 
Its pretty easy to sign up, they do a background check and we need to get a commercial driving authorization done in australia. Not sure about the states but I imagine it would be pretty easy.

You can do whatever hours you want, but of course there is very low incentive. IM is far more profitable for me. Ive only done it for a bit of extra cash even though it pays fuck all because its flexible. And I need to get out of the house once in a while lol. And the dance studiowhen theres no class haha. But yeah, I really don't understand how Uber can get away with this for much longer. Cutting costs at everyones expense but themselves and making drivers hate them is a problem that will be soon fixed by an alternative, I hear Juno or something is doing something about it.

Treating the backbone of your company like shit is one way to flush yourself out of the market lol.

Seeing as how the backbone is about to be self-driving cars, I doubt they're giving it much thought.
 
Ah yes, partnering with Google on that one was a smart move. Oh well, once they've churned out through most of the idiots in every city they operate, they'll still be left with a massive gap of time until self driving cars become the "norm". I have a dream, that one day massive corporations will stop penny pinching for investors.

Like I said, IM is far more profitable and it continues to grow exponentially. Slowly but surely. As for Uber, it was more about curiosity than anything else, and for the bonus for me and my bro. Sure, Uber might be worth 70 billion right now, but "tech" companies can fuck themselves very quickly, especially because they're in the middle of many different lawsuits regarding their legality everywhere they go, consumer pricing issues, drivers becoming increasingly agitated by the price cuts.

Is that "more" for you Sherbert? Why don't you tell me more about how you think this is viable for a company like Uber? Tell me more.
 
Drivers will be a thing of the past for uber, they are already working on a fleet of self driving cars.

I drive for Lyft. I find I make much better money with them. The "surge" pricing and the uber guarantees always seem to have some kind of catch or not quite add up. They just seem kinda shady to me. I only drove for them a few times. The networking opportunities are great though. I actually have an article on it if you care to read it. Not selling anything lol.

Networking, sure lol -- yesterday I dropped off a few drug dealers to the warehouse they're living in, a hooker, and a potential thief. I still have all my shit intact though. I'll look into Lyft but it's not a very popular option in Australia yet, so demand would likely be low.

Lol, I've had a few strange experiences. I live in Denver, CO though so I meet all sorts of people. I've had the opportunity to network my businesses to a lot of people. My friend does MLM and he has more success with it. I feel like it's easier to sit with somebody and talk about MLM than it is to tell them to go buy porn and ecigs. Lmao!
 
I see, that's a clever way to get leads although a lot of people start running the other direction once they've been presented with that type of stuff down here. Everyone is trying to make a buck. I've even been solicited several times where I work a casual job at a factory for a "health product" (herbalife). She's an old lady so I stay polite, but it is pretty annoying because I know exactly what "having a chat" with her will mean - a very vague yet intriguing proposition to buy a starter pack and flog shit products to my friends and family lol.
 
I drove for uber for 2 weeks and I earned $500 after fees minus gas so maybe $420 for 2 weeks, 60 hours driving. I put 800 miles on my car and the last person I picked was a single mother with a baby with no car seat and I said fuck this biz. Not for me.
 
In my city you just need to find the right times to drive. I've tried during the wrong times and ended making 5-10$ hr. In the right times i've achived as high as $25 an hour. Two very important variables are: Location and Times.
 
Yeah, I can see how surge pricing might be an attraction, but even then there are so many uber drivers that quickly saturate the area that the demand goes down quickly (and obviously fare reduction). It sounds good when you look into it, and maybe it was about 2-3 years ago before everyone started literally paying uber to drive for them... but for now, they're an enormous scam with too many idiots believing the lies and hype. It's just beyond retarded why the mega corporations treat their #1 assets like shit all the while lining up their own pockets. Oh yeah, self driving cars. It will be an issue and atleast a decade away on my guess after reading about the current technology. But there is no way Uber is going to last that long without making things more profitable for drivers.
