Off for a visit in couple of weeks, has anyone been before and any tips on places to visit, I have hired car and going to drive around a bit no more than 2 hours outside the city though..
Anyone been to Berlin?

been there on my eurotrip last autumn
way TOO MUCH hookers at night, nothing really big to see, war and depression monuments everywhere
My friend went to potsdam while I was luying at the hotel watching some starcraft streams, he said it's beautiful there
also if you have a car just drive to paris and check it out

Berlin is an awesome city!
I'm sure you'll have a good time seeing the area if ya make the best of it.
I am not that familiar with the city but did spend a few weeks there. I lived in Germany for a bit while finishing school at the Uni. and one of the coolest things I did/saw while in Berlin was this HUGE Botanical Garden in the south of the city.
I know I know... it's not the hottest club with the nightlife ... LOL, but it was one of the most amazing things I've seen anywhere in the world. And after spending so much time in such a large city and traveling this was a peaceful place to wander around in amazement at all plants of the world.
I spent a whole day there and still didn't get to see it all. It's that big.
It's called: Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin-Dahlem
Basically it's garden after garden of all types of plants from countries of the world and it's organized either by country or continent.

If you're into history at all then there is SO much to check out and even if you're not history buff you still may find them interesting:
- Brandenburg gate area, and the Parliament building (close to each other)
- Checkpoint Charlie area
- The TV tower, and ... not sure where anymore, but near there is a square with museums and cool old buildings.
- The Radio tower
- Drive by the Victory Column, used to be able to climb it. not sure now
- Swing by the Kolhoff tower, near Potsdammer Platz and go to the top to check out the views of the eastern (I think) side of the city, and you can do the same at "Europe Center/Berlin Windows".
Near Potsdammer Platz I think there were several other things in the area that were cool. =)

Great stuff - thought I was just going to get shit load of stupid comments, I have been learning German for around 18months and is a obsession at the moment so hope it helps when im there...

Yeah. I like berlin. You can party up until 6am. Your only gonna be there for 2 hours so just check out some tourist places.
If your staying for a few days, the generator hostel is a great party hostel. There is also amazing clubs, good food, and a lot of hot chicks.
Oh yeah, try out the Currywurst.

lived about 25 years in Berlin, a crazy lovley city, there is much to see.
Kreuzberg must see, German and Turkish People live here in a special atmosphere together, like little Istanbul. Kudamm, Kanzleramt, friedirchstr, leipziger str, Postdamer Platz and so on....
I think you'll like the "Berliner" big mouth and big heart...

As a child we lived in Steinbach. Dad was in the US Air Force and our housing was out in the country side. Simple beautiful old estate with manicured grounds.
The beer halls at the time served up some of the best steaks I have ever eaten. They are very communial in nature with everyone sitting together at large oak tables.
During our stay there I learned enough German to order up beer on the phone. My mother caught me doing that one morning. I was only 4 years old at the time. True story.
Maybe that is why I like beer so much today...

Was in Berlin for an exhibition, got absolutely slaughtered but a friend I wa in dragged me round Berlin with a thumping headache. Actually very glad to this day he did and keep meaning to go back
Reichstag building - you can go to the glass dome on the top and walk to the top of the dome
