Anyone affected on their G rankings?

This last update f** me up. I lost two #1 rankings for a search volume of 60.000 per month (the two keywords combined).

Why not try removing them?

I'm not familiar with either of them to be honest with you. Maybe the plugins created links to pages that didn't have them before? Thus inflating your indexed pages but overall the pages were a lot of duplicate content?

Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

I have removed the tag cloud, and the search terms widget (I had added 2, previously there was 1), but google still has not put me on the first page again or top 1k even.

Hmm, This is interesting. I have Search Terms 2 on all my sites currently. I've been noticing traffic going down and down and down as of the last 2 months. Noticed quiet a few sites losing rankings.

So, I went ahead and took Search terms 2 off 4-5 of the sites that were no longer ranking. and waited 2 weeks. Sure enough 3 out of the 5 sites came back and I did 0 work to them.

Now to figure out if they were just dancing or cause of the algo. I highly think it's cause of a algo change. so i'm about to take Search terms 2 of all my sites and see what happens from there.

I added Search Terms 2 plugin and tag cloud widget, and I disappeared and never went back.

So it is $15,000 down the drain in profit which is a good amount of money to lose in 24 hours with no explanation from google as usual.

I noticed G picking up on its footprint and for the past 6 months and have since disabled Convert search terms into links and keep the Max number of search terms at 10

Seems to give better results configured this way.

i had search terms 2 for the last 6months but i had it max to 100. i might ry lowering to 10 to see what happens

My rankings havent moved, im still top for a very competitive keyword, but my traffic has suddnly dried up! Gone from a modest 100 - 200 a day to between 2 - 16 visitors a day, yet im still top, dont understand it...

My site has jumped from 16-9 in the last 2 days. i hope it stays there :)

Clear your cookies and see if you still rank because you may not be.

I just removed search terms 2 plugin, so hopefully I get my rankings back.

There is hope, my site is climbing up slowly - today it's 27 from 33. Yeah, it was cushy at the top - quite a few aff sales gone now...
Good thing it's only one of many, but those with high page one position are not that easy any more to maintain...I need new weapons!

One of my big money makers lost ranking on almost every search term. We had over 300 terms on the first page. All of a sudden at 11 pm on Thursday night they suddenly dropped to the 4-5-6-7-8th pages. After doing some research we came up with a few reasons to why this may have happened.

First we added a java script code which would redirect visitors to the pages on Google image searches. I had read that this would not affect rankings, but it is too much of a coincidence that it happened 3 days after we added the script.

Another problem we had was a ton of broken links, and the site was creating loops with some of the php pages. This is obviously bad because the spiders get caught on your website, and G takes this as a bad "user experience".

The only other things we could think of is to many duplicate pages (we have removed as many as we could) and a competitor did some shady stuff dropping links in bad neighborhoods.

When this happens you just have to continue to plug along. This happens to all good webmasters, and you have to chalk it up to a learning experience from the standpoint that it will only make you that much better at SEO in the long run.

Lastly we now think that Google is looking at duplicate pages with much more scrutiny. For example, we had over 1,000 geo targeted pages which only changed a slight bit. All title tags and description were unique but the content for the most part was duplicated on all 1K pages, with only slight changes.

My site lost its rankings on Tuesday when I added "Popular Searches" from the search terms 2 plugin. Before that I had the "Recent Searches" and it was fine.

When I added "Popular Searches" widget, I also added "Tag Cloud" widget, then I lost my rankings.

Both were removed today, so hopefully the website comes back.

About 2 weeks ago one of my main sites went from #1 for main keyword + high spots for about 10 other keywords to disappearing from google. It's still indexed though. No idea what happened. I'm working on the content and backlinks to try and get it back.

Did you happen to make note of where the visitors were coming from when you got 100-200 people? And make note of where they are coming from now that you only get 2-16?

One thing I've noticed with my sites when this happens is that maybe one day I'll be ranked #2 in the UK for my search term ( and #1 in US), and then the next week my UK rank drops. The rank never changed in the US, but it DID change in the UK. Traffic comes from all over, and if you really know your stuff, you'll be able to figure out where it was coming from and why it dried up. ;)

Because G's algo is shifting a lot lately, it could also be that you were getting traffic referred to you from a certain website, and then THEIR rank dropped too.

Just some helpful tips, if you didn't already know them.
