Anybody here get deviated septum surgery?

I'll be getting surgery in a few weeks (deviated septum) and was curious if you any of you have had it done before

If so, any post surgery advice? Does it hurt like a biatch?

I have to travel like a week after the surgery..so hopefully that's not going to be a problem haha. Nose bleeds on the plane n crap :p

why would it hurt you get put to sleep? It's a nose, what are you having it for, I can't breath that good, and my sinuses seem to get inflamed easy. This is after being punched 2 times.

My bad, I wasn't clear in my OP. I meant post surgery pain. Obviously they'll put me to sleep during it :p
 
Don't think it would be worse than say wisdom teeth man. Which is probably worse, I was awake for one impacted one and one normal one. End of the day what do you think will happen? You will be like oMG my nose it's soo bad? Probably worse being constipated, but I would find the ordeal strange?

I also have a deviated septum. I've thought about surgery in the past, but since it does not affect me greatly (unless during a cold) I have waited. Please update us on the experience, and best of luck on your surgery.

I'll definitely keep you updated. Sounds like yours isn't to bad then, so might not be worth doing it. Mines is pretty damn bad. Can't breath well in my sleep, so I wake up with a sore throat every morning. Messed it up playing hockey back in the day. :p
 
I have had an acute deep sinus infection for the last 6 weeks been to the doc a few times. He finally has me on some strong ass meds that make you sick while you are on them. Go figure but it feels like the infection is getting better. Not only that it's been attacking my optic nerves and inner ear also.

Long story short. If these meds I'm on don't clear it up I gotta get a similar surgery. I guess we will see in about a week if I need it or not.

Actually, when I went into see the specialist, we found out I had the same infection. He said I had probably gotten it hundreds of times over the years, and it happens to those who have a deviated septum.

I was just diagnosed with a deviated septum last week. I am constantly stuffed up, and finally convinced my family doc to send me to a specialist. When the ENT doc checked my nose out he was amazed that I dont actually have problems breathing. He suggested surgery but I am still trying to weigh out if I really want to have it done or not. He told me it would keep me from work for about a week. He didnt say if it was painful or not, but im assuming that if id be laid up from work for a week that it cant be to fun. My main issues are being constantly stuffed up, but no problems breathing yet, although I wonder if it may have part to do with my problems sleeping at night.
 
I got surgery to fix my deviated septum about a 3 years ago. All i can tell you is that i before I had a hard time inhaling through one nostril, after the surgery I can finally breathe!

The good thing about this procedure is that its very common. I had rhinoplasty done as well to make sure everything was done correctly. I was in and out in a few hours. The bad thing about this is is recovery. They completely block out both your nostrils with gauze so you will not be breathing from your nose for a week.

They do give you some pains pills that you will need to take, especially when they remove the gauze and plastics they keep in your nose to keep form. I took one when they recommended you take two. Word of advice, Take what they recommend!

I get all stuffed up as well, quite a few times a week. I think it certainly might have something to do with your problems sleeping at night. Doc said it is very likely the reason I feel tired in the morning/have a sore throat.

Great info man! Actually, my specialist said they would not be using the gauzes..if I recall correctly, it was some sort of metal plates or I dunno I forget the exact term..apparently it is something that is quickly replacing the gauzes. Hopefully it will allow me to somewhat breath out of my nose. Can't imagine not being able to breath out of my nose for a week.

I find myself tossing and turning at night, I end up laying on my arms and they go numb and wake me up. The tossing and turning may have to do with the stuffiness though for sure.

I find myself taking mucinex D to help with the stuffiness, and Ocean spray. I never get totally unclogged, but I get it to the point where its not as noticeable.

Yeah that would be Crazy not being able to breathe out of your nose for a week!
 
i am big on that niche.lol
as for the surgery yes pain will/might be a problem post surgery.
almost make sure no heavy force is exerted on the nose in the next few days after the surgery.
 
Although it did suck not being able to breathe through my nose for a week, i got used to it pretty quick. I did notice after the surgery that my nose is dried alot more often. Another thing is that i dont get sore throats as often. i used to have a lot of sore throats prior to the surgery. Lastly, i did notice an increase in energy as well. If youre looking to get this surgery, get it over with asap! :)
 
Thanks guys :) Got my appointment set for the beginning of April.

One more thing..my nose appears slightly crooked due to my deviated septum. Now, I realize not all people with a deviated septum have a crooked nose. I also realize that the surgery is not cosmetic, and is only for the inside of the nose. But with this said, will the surgery on my deviated septum sort of indirectly straight my nose?

I've heard that there are some potential risks associated with the surgery. I've heard some people actually end up losing their sense of smell. Anybody know what the chance of that happening is? I'm having second thoughts about having this surgery done lmao
 
My nose is a bit crooked and I have a deviated septum. I can't breathe out of my left nostril. It's a bitch. Let me know how it goes and good luck.

consult your doctor as to whether you really need a surgery or not.
if the deviation is small it can be corrected through medication.
