Anybody got a basic mobile website sales letter?

OK guys I need help!

I'm just starting up a new mobile website business where I'm giving the sites for free for a while (next 3 months) to build a portfolio etc... trouble is I've realised I'm not very good at writing copy and all of my attempts so far have been dire.

I'm seeking either a pre-written sales letter, somebody to write me one (paid of course), or help in writing my own - basically to sell the idea and need to the business owner receiving it. If I have to go the route of paying to have one written, please make suggestions of users on here who are trusted and have proven track records - thanks.

Honestly I'm very overwhelmed right now with it (dyslexia) and so need any help you are willing or can give. I know I'm not around here much but I know you guys are always willing to help if you can.

BTW, I'm in a small area of the Isle of Wight in the UK so I'm sure I won't be stepping on anybody's toes, just trying to make a small monthly income for my family.

You should have The Isle of Wight wrapped around your finger and be absolutely smashing it.
All those yachtsmen and tourists? They ain't getting off the ferry with their PC's or laptops
they are getting off with their mobile phones.
I'd have mobile directories across the island, text news and alert services.
the businesses down there would be biting my hand of to go mobile.
You think about it. Most people would search the net before travelling but not even look at a PC
while there. Now if you could get them to subscribe by text on their main site buy way of coupon
or something. fields = name, email, number and date of travel you could text and email them a welcome message with
a link to the mobile site. They'll come and visit your business as a way of thanks and to redeem their coupon.
Now you must be able to sell that concept to anyone.

In fact it should work in any tourist area.

You know what, you'd think it would be an easy sell right? With the exception of a handful of 'new' businesses here most of the business owners are almost prehistoric lol, sadly they still believe that the YP or similar are the be all and end all of marketing - because all visitors travel with an anthology of YP's for each country lol

Any advice on how to persuade and guide these guys?

I've been to The Isle of Wight and I know what you mean, they're not in a hurry to change their ways like
standing behind someone in a shop and missing the bus because they were talking about how the last bus
was late.
I really don't know how you dig people out the dark ages, perhaps you should let evolution take its course.
You could take the approach of finding one person first and making them a success. Do it all for them for free
but work with them all the way teaching them at the same time so they can tell others.
What do you have there? Radio Solent or something? I know they love their late night phone ins.
That is always a good place to get interest.
Be a bit controversial that always creates conversation.
Phone in and say " Everyone is complaining about the economy and I have a service that works all
around the world yet no on on The IOW listens to me" As soon as they ask you what it is.

People don't like new but when they've heard about this they are more receptive.

I know they won't take "in your face" marketing down there that's why you got to tailor it
a little different. You got to make them think it was their idea.

To be honest the only person who could write IOW copy had to be born and bred there.

There is a WSO floating around called Offline Diamonds which has some brilliant ideas for Mobile Business, The main idea focussed upon is this.

1. Get your self a copy of Mobiliser which is a mobile phone simulator.
2. Find all the clients on I.O.W that have a website already.
3. Use Mobiliser to see what their website looks like on an Apple Iphone, Android,Blackberry,all included in the simulator.
4. 95% of all websites are not optimised for mobile, so once you have a picture of how bad the potential clients website looks
you can email a picture of this to the client (this is a function of the free software) telling him how much business he maybe losing from his unoptimised site. The beauty of this method
is that it does not require a hard sell because he can see that his site looks like shite. You tell him that you can do his site and you'll throw in a free redirection script you can find online that his web master can place on the existing site. Tell him that 40% of all access to the internet is now via mobile so he really needs to address this. I wouldn't worry about a too flowery sales letter. The trick to use is imagine you are talking to an elder family member and your explaining it to them.

When you have designed your mobile site run it through the W3C Mobile checker you'll need to get a verification rating of at least 70%
if you can do that it will be a major selling point (twitter mobile only verifies at 71%) The trick to this is using CSS and making sure the Page weight is under 100k (max). Good luck...

Very valuable advice, I never thought of running the client through the current situation too much, it's what I do to target them anyway lol

I've actually got an online version of the simulator (for iphone and blackberry) which I can point them to my website too

Just a hint - if your sales letter isn't too wide, you can add this line in the <head> section of your site.


That locks the scale (zoom) of the mobile browser to 1:1, and doesn't allow the person to zoom in and out. You can also play with the scale to lock it to a particular zoom level.
