Any good proxy checker (the same script you call to check them initially as the user) should be able to tell you. Go to:
    Code:
    http://www.proxyblind.org
    or
    Code:
    http://www.ip.cc/check-proxy-basic.php
and you'll see the sort of info you're looking for. Just download a proxy judge script from somewhere and throw it up on your site.

For TOR and the like, there're scripts to auto-detect that too:
    Code:
    http://www.hackszine.com/blog/archive/2007/10/deanonymizing_tor_and_detectin.html
Of course, in that case you could also just monitor the TOR IP list from their own site and auto-block all those addresses. Stupid TOR, I never understand why people keep advocating it.

There are a few ways. If it's not a good anon proxy it will pass their real IP address through in the headers. Otherwise you can check it against known proxy lists. Other than port scanning them (which I strongly recommend against) there really aren't any other ways of finding out easily. You could try a Java or ActiveX applet but they'll get an alert about it.

'...Depends what kind of proxy they are using. If using a high anonymity proxy with ActiveX and Java Script disabled, it's virtually impossible.

Like Orebil says, a poor standard anon proxy or a transparent proxy will pass on the real IP address.

If you know what you're doing you can be completely anonymous.

wow, your signature is annoyingly huge lowboman... i'm glad adblock works :D

Anyways, you could use a flash application as well. Using a direct socket connection to your http server and then call a script..
