My authorship disappeared from my site sometime back probably 1 month ago. The tagline "by Author" still appears under my site in SERPs but no image. Is there any way to get it back?

Google seems to be getting stricter with the sites they show images for in the SERPs. From what I can tell having fresh content in your Google Plus account is definitely necessary.

Make sure your G+ profile picture is a real photo, not a celebrity photo/cartoon.

You need to have some activity in your G+ account else google will stop displaying the pic.

I have seen quite a few cartoon ones still up, which have been up for years. The only thing I would guess may work is start fresh with an aged G+ account which has activity and followers.

I had 1200+ followers with a lot of activity on my account. The only thing I guess I was doing wrong was: using a cartoon picture.

Yeah, definitely put a real photo of a person. If you don't want to put your photo, go and buy a photo from a stock photo site.

I just added authorship to my site so I am in limbo waiting to see if google will show the authorship.

Google shows the "By My Name" line in the SERPS, but no photo yet.

What is your guys experience with the traffic boost you receive from having the photo display?

Or what kind of traffic decrease did you see when the photo was removed?

Thanks!

Well my guess is they are not going to show your photo, as your name and photo comes up at the same time. All my accounts now have a name but no photo. I also noticed ages ago that my star ratings started to drop off a lot of my websites.

Google is tweaking the Authorship rich snippet algorithm and has been for some months.
See article on searchengineland "confirmed google reduces authorship rich snippets in search results 180313"
What is happening is a re-weighting of the algorithm towards the following attributes:
- frequency of writing
- authority of sites upon which content is posted
- quality of writing
- popularity of your content (links, traffic, social shares, etc.)

What they are starting to implement is specialization. So, if Perry Marshall writes an article on PPC, he may get a full snippet and an in-depth article citation. If he writes an article on horseback riding, Google may ignore his authorship because he has demonstrated no expertise in the field.

Virante (no relation) has developed a free beta calculator to estimate your AuthorRank by entering your Google+. It's just their guess as to how the algorithm is structured, but seems informative:
search for virante and author rank (no urls in posts, yet -argh)

Can anyone here comment about traffic increases when the google authorship photo appears in the SERPs? or traffic decline when the photo no longer appears?

I am interested to know what type of traffic increase I will see if my authorship is ever shown in the SERPs...

Obviously, its probably different for different people, but I want to know what all of you experienced one way or the other...

It increases the CTR.

Hi,

Buy a picture from a photo site, buy a picture from a good looking babe, it realy helps ;-)

Google + shows my picture on all urls for months now:

Here we go:

First make a blog on your website and update weekly with 1500+ words, and point a lot of links to your site/blog
After that update your google+ weekly and point links to your website/blog.

First your pic will show up at the url website/blog, after a view weeks (when you update your blog weekly) the picture will show up at more and more urls.

After one month i changed my picture (iam male) and replaced it by a good looking babe, CTR did go up a lot, not joking it realy helps!

me too facing it.mine was showing in SERPs but recently it changed to name only.I assume ,it was started when i haulted my site for maintenance .now waiting for Google to change its cache and restart showing my picture.Cartoons will work like charm,i have seen a many of them.Still if you have less authority with your +profile, i would choose a clear picture showing your face for that.

It increases the CTR.

Obviously, but I am trying to get someone to say what sort of percentage increase in traffic they received. For example, "my photo showed up in the SERPs and my traffic increased 20% thereafter."

what kind of decrease in traffic occurred after the photo stopped showing?

Not a lot comparatively ,as my title and description can always call them into the post.still, there is a slight change as in the case of exposure.showing your +profile pic, keeps your site stay apart from other results.and that makes some direct visibility to the googlers.in that case,we are loosing for some keywords, where is tight competition.
