Any tips on ranking a video with white hat methods only?

Well white hat kind of implies a quality video? 
But you can also create some controversy to get people to comment (and increase rank) and maybe make the video viral.
The title is also extremely important and should include some keywords you are targeting.

To start put your keyword in Title and tags to start. Then create a long, detailed description about your video - use your keywords and variants here too. Then add some links to relevant authority sites and chuck a few of your other videos in here.

What do you guys think about adding other people on google plus? They will look at your YouTube channel and might even subscribe but I'm wondering one thing since I've got a legit youtube channel with subscribers. Will I get ban? I have been doing this for a little bit, I seem to get 1 subscriber for every 10 followings which is good but I don't spam it.

The real white hat method everyone FAILS to preach is buying Adwords views for your videos. Google has no white hat methods, just get banned for being on top and not spending a dime with them, or spend millions of dollars to brand yourself. It's the same as in SEO on Google as it is on YouTube, you spend money or you spend a kings ransom, either way someone is always going to dethrone you at a later time.

There is some truth to that. I find whenever I get a video around 500,000 [real] views if there is even something the least bit questionable about it, it gets nuked. It's as if they manually review videos that get near that threshold.
