Any tips on how I can speed up keyword research considerably?

Is there any way I can speed up this process?

It takes me hours to do the keyword research and then list a set of instructions for the writer to follow.

I don't know how I am supposed to build huge websites if it takes so long doing the keyword research?

Without knowing your research process how can we know how to speed it?
Are you using tools? Which tools?
How much is "so long"? You have to understand that niche researching is, if not, one of the the most powerful action in marketing that cannot be disregarded. Landing in one "big G spot" can drive you 80% of your income.
So most of the time, despite being one of the least rewarding action, this should take a good amount of time.
 
You can always use tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush to see what low competition keywords your competition is ranking for.

Or you can hire a VA to do this for you.
 
You can try the MISC marketplace here and hire EXPERIENCED kw hunters to do the grunt work for you

I'd place small test orders with several providers

Compare the results and scale up once you find the right provider

That is a great reply and will make me dread the time it takes less.

I have access to both ahrefs and semrush.

Will i need to hire a very SEO competent VA here so they understand the process?

If so how much would i be looking to pay for such a person?

I must be using the search wrongly here as i did search months back and only found one. I hired them and they sucked haha.
 
If you want to speed up the process, just buy keywords from trusted sellers here. I don't even recommend to people just starting out to be spending much time on keyword research. It will burn you out and you may still end up with very difficult keywords. Do your research by the side (to gain more experience) but buy keywords for quick set up of your websites. Mastering keywords research takes time.

I'm not a big fan of Ahrefs for keyword research, though Semrush is fine. I prefer other tools like keywordtool or kwfinder

I have to understand if your target is to research new keywords for a new site/niche, or if you are researching keywords for your already established site

If the second case, Ahrefs and Semrush are fine: you just need to research on your competence already positioned keywords and simply try to outrank them, is fast and simple as hell

But if you are looking for new keywords, it's an extremelly difficult topic. Also recommend keyword keg but you will need dozens of hours to find good gold nuggets

To understand how slow or fast you are working, as I commented before, it's needed that you comment on your current strategy and what you are targeting from the two options I've told you.
 
Keyword research isn't something that can be rushed. Well, it can, but if you want good keywords, then it takes time.

Many people outsource keyword research as it's often one of the hardest elements of SEO and time consuming.

Check the marketplace for sellers.

This! Better take time on keyword research than wasting time for keyword not ranking.

Yeah you can hire someone here or on a freelancing website; upwork.

I’ve hired someone on upwork to do similar work for $5/hour
 
Ahrefs to get your big bundle of keywords to check.

Nothing can really speed up the individual analysis of keywords aside from experience. I found that as I did more keyword research, I basically could pick out the good keywords from a list of 1000+ just by looking at them.

Scrapebox / autoappend tools can help you build out niches once you have the individual keywords.

Giving writer instructions is an often-overlooked time investment. Ideally, you use the same writer or group of writers every time. The first couple times, you may need to provide specific instructions. As they start to learn what you're looking for, you should be able to send them over a list of keywords and longtails, and they should be able to write a perfect article from that list. If your writer needs their hand held on every order, you may want to try a different one who "gets it" and doesn't need too much guidance.

How much do you pay for your writers?
 
High-quality keyword research takes a lot of time as it's a process which requires you to get inside the heads of your audience.
1) Luckily, there are several tools (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Google Autocomplete, Google Trends, Ubersuggest) out there to make things a little easier.
2) You can either outsource your keyword research process or hire someone to do it for you. This could save your time.
 
I have been reading and studying about keyword research for the past week or so a lot and one thing i have realize that has helped me a lot is to create a like a roadmap or a checklist of all the steps you have to run in order to conduct an effective and in-depth KW research.

Be as detailed as possible, especially if you´re starting out. Create checkpoint and mark them as you go.
