I was at work today and we just had a truck come through and had about 25 pallets that we needed to get rid of and a couple of guys rode through and asked if they could have them, it would normally cost us to get them hauled off. I asked them how much they make per pallet after seeing what they wanted them for and they said $5, I looked around online and 2-5 dollars seems about the right price per pallet. They are now going to pick up our pallets every week. I was thinking of forming a small local company and go around and talk to some managers of some of the local stores and offer to pick them up. Some places recycle their own but most places don't. If you get broken ones it would be easy to take them and repair each other. Their small truck (think small 4 cylinder Toyota) was able to carry all of the pallets so if you are able to form a relationship with the local business I wouldn't see why this wouldn't work. Thoughts?
Any thoughts on selling pallets?

I used to work at a furniture store and always saw those guys come around and pick them up. I always wondered how much they made. If you don't mind doing the manual labor or, better yet, can outsource it, I would say go for it!
I just looked at the free section on Craigslist and within the last week there are about 10 posts of people wanting someone to pick up their pallets, it seems even more viable now.

I would find a list of buyers before you start collecting a ton of pallets. But yeah, anything you can get for free and sell at a decent profit is a good deal. But like MonsterSquad says, if you don't mind doing the manual labor then go for it. And do the numbers on outsourcing to see if they work for you.
Yea, I'm gonna ask for a quote from a couple local companies.

pallets are everywhere and some companies just make them in massive quantity..................
If you can find them Quickrete pallets are worth at least 15$. However most businesses have to sell them back to quickrete or they are charged the money. So you might be able to find some small contractors that have no way to get rid of them and sell them back to quickrete. 100 pallets a day is about 1500 dollars!

There are a couple of guys near where I live who do this. They sells them on, or make log stores/furniture out of them and sell them on (back to my work in some cases!).
Could be viable, as long as there isn't much competition in the area, aka more of those guys you mentioned.

I know a lot of truckers make a decent side income with selling the pallets.
I can just speak for Europe, there are different standardized pallets, one of them is the EUR pallet. If a truck comes to a factory to pick up their shipment the trucker has to give the factory the equal amount of EUR pallets he has to load. It's a swap system and they normally don't get thrown away. You can sell these pallets for 7-10€

At least where I am from there are several companies buying used pallets. But I live in a city with a huge port, so there are probably more companies around here than elsewhere
Yeah, you got a point there. I work in a town that isnt huge with shipping. I guess this method will kind of depend on where you are located.
