Hello, I've always wanted to try out using a dedicated server, just that i have no knowledge right now of how to run one, so if anyone could suggest some good managed solutions I'd be very happy. I was looking at server4you.com, but since they don't manage your server I won't go with them, the reason being i want to have some security against a DDOS and other attacks. I'd want to be able to order extra ips.

iweb.com was pretty sweat a bit costly.. but the speeds were superb and support as well

    that's managed services

For non managed FDCservers.com is good but there services go down for maintenance quite often but there pretty darn cheap you get what you pay for FDC support is pretty good also. if it wasn't for the constant maintenance causing my server to go down i would have stayed with them

Thanks for those 2 sites. I'm looking for a host that offers extra ips since I'm gonna be hosting around 10 proxy sites on the server I will order. The thing is: should I really worry that much about getting DDOSed or just get a non managed and use it as a learning experience for managing servers.

I've always been more than happy with Servstra and Liquidweb, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for, if price is an issue ManageMyBox provide a decent service at a reasonable price.

WiredTree has amazing managed servers. One thing you should do before you choose a provider is ask them if they even allow proxies on their network or just read their AUP. A lot of them do not want to deal with the potential abuse these types of site can bring.

If you want to learn how to manage a server, get a VPS from Linode. If you mess up, you can re-install your OS with a click of a button. You can also choose different distributions. It will also be cheaper than buying a full blown server.
