Well? Started doing some freelance design and would like to expand my clientele. I am doing work on upwork right now and making an okay amount for the amount of time I'm putting in, but I want to market my service locally. I have a FB page and use that to promote, as well as a website. I've got business cards as well.

To the successful people out there in this field (or similar ones), how do you go about getting the word out there and starting to create a flow of business?

Word of mouth is your best bet. A friend of mine who is a graphic designer ended up building a relationship with a small record label, and always has a steady flow of album artwork to work on. Get your portfolio up on sites like behance, pinterest, twitter, facebook, etc. Maybe reach out to some bands or band managers on facebook. The for hire section on reddit is also a pretty good place to look for some work. Good luck to you!

To get started you can start offering your services on fiver, eBay, and seo clerks, start doing logo and Web design and do a kick ass job and give promotions for referrals if you are any good at what you do clients and gigs will start rolling in.... good luck

This is clearly not what the OP meant with "success". Graphic design is undervalued as it is.

OP, as any business, you need to know how to rub shoulders with people in high positions. Start networking with people with disposable cash and not with the usual "I wantz logo fr $5 pls."

I know it's difficult because there isn't a clear-cut method on how to do this, but you know, you chose this path.

Everything you mentioned are offline long term methods which yes are a way to grow your biz like everyone else. This doesn't happen overnight. Trust me I know what I'm talking about. Online methods are a good way to get biz quick and to get the word out about your trade.
