Any success with cold e-mails?

Anyone here have tried cold e-mailing people to sell your service or product?

I plan on e-mailing like 1,000 prospects per week. Would I be in any legal trouble if I have my address and unsubscribe link at the bottom? I heard that is all I need to be CAN-SPAM safe.

I know a lot of people cold e-mail using Salesforce. I'm just wondering if it's against the law or not in the US. Also how successful is it to you? How many people actually buy if you add a link in your e-mail (2% or more)?

How many people buy ? It really depends on how targeted is your list and the niche.

ive been doing it and gotten sales just scraping niche small business sites.
you can add a fake 'click here to unsubscribe' footprint to the footer of your email to get better inboxes. read that here on bhw but havent tested it yet.
havent gotten in any trouble regarding can-spam. just a few pissed off people replying, but who cares about hate mail when other people from the same list respond positively and give you their money.
i found telling people to give me their phone number performs better than sending them to an opt-in page.
