I've been grinding Youtube shorts for the past year or more, gaining a couple thousand subscribers and several million views, but my progress / success seems much slower compared to other videos in the niche (with lower-quality content).

Are there any tips/secrets that would help? Almost all my videos stop getting views after a few days to a week. Very rarely do they go longer.

I took a break for months, and pretty much only one video continued to get views (over 2 million now).

Examples of my most recent videos after 48 hours:
30k views (and basically died off)
400-500 likes
30-50 comments
20-30 video length
100%-125% watch time
70%-80% stayed to watch

Perhaps I'm just delusional about the quality? Or these stats should be better?

Just keep trying, these stats are already better than most beginner channels. Feel free to contact me with link if you want some extra advice.

Series are good to use as people go back to old videos as well as look forward to the next.

Shorts are not always instant. But if you don't get results for a few months then you should just change the channel and or content

I would like to understand more about backlinks for YouTube videos. Can someone provide a list where I can submit my YouTube video IDs?

Mate, you're doing very well.

Just bookmarking this for a later , extensive write up if I get the time.

You are way past beginner level and youtube already trusts you with distribution and discoverability to a degree which most never see.

Success lies solely in content. If you think your results are poor, then the problem is simply your content.

i have seen many ai videos using ai and creating contnet according to there requirements mostly its a content which can optimize your youtube journey

Honestly, looking at the numbers you posted, you're already doing better than a lot of Shorts channels out there.

100%+ watch time and 70–80% retention is actually solid for 20–30s videos. That usually means the content itself is working. What many people don’t realize is that Shorts distribution is extremely burst-based. You get a push for a few hours or days, then it cools off. Sometimes it gets picked up again weeks or even months later. I've had clips sit almost dead and suddenly start moving again for no obvious reason.

The fact that one of your older videos kept running to 2M views is actually a good sign. It means the system already identified at least one piece of content as something worth recycling in the feed.

What I’ve noticed with Shorts is that small external signals can make a difference in those early hours. Not talking about anything crazy, just a bit of activity outside YouTube so the video doesn’t rely 100% on the initial Shorts shelf push. Sometimes that’s enough to help it survive past that first distribution window.

Also +1 to what someone mentioned about series. When people recognize a format or a recurring idea, they start clicking faster when the next one appears. That improves early CTR which helps the algorithm decide whether to push it further.

From the stats you shared, I wouldn’t say you’re delusional about the quality. If anything, it sounds like you’re already past the phase where most channels quit. At that point it’s usually about volume, iteration and occasionally giving the system a small nudge so the video doesn’t die after the first wave.

YouTube short are use in making little timing video which detail on need opinion/option,most YouTube researchers interest much in short video than long videos to derive needed options faster.

Your stats are very good, you just have to consistently upload more reels in order to get discovered more by the correct audience.
