Any Published Authors on BHW [Offline]?

I'm almost ready to publish my first book and I'm wondering if anyone on BHW has published a [physical] book in the past?


I would appreciate some tips in regards to these matters.


From my understanding I need to professionally edit my book before sending it to a publisher. Since I invested a lot of energy in this book I'm willing to invest whatever it takes (money) to get it accepted by a good publisher. Of course I'd rather spend the least possible but I won't be stingy.


I know there are several types of book editing available with different costs.


I'm looking for a full fledged edit I think this is referred to as "copy editing "


Who would you recommend for this job?


In general any preference for a certain agency when it comes to book editing?


Also since this is my first time publishing a book is there a reason to be worried that an agency will steal the manuscript ?

you will have more success online rather then offline.
online marketing for your book is pretty easy if you know IM shitz.
less work more returns in future. making your book available on kindle is kindda must to do for any book authors.

book editing is require but you seems quite serious about it, but it's not that much of important according to me. just make it kindle compatibility and good looking cover
and you are ready to roll. there are tons of resources on torrents download learn and earn.

on topic what you asked i think it will cost you from $197-$497 i have seen couple of
twitter profile who do this type of work but sorry i don't remember the usernames.
may be search for ebook writer or something and try your luck it might come up.

I've been published a few times. Are you looking to publish fiction or non-fiction? The publishing process is a bit different between fic and non-fic.

Are you looking for an agent or a publisher first? Many publishers don't accept submissions from unagented writers.

As for copy editing, yes, your manuscript should be edited before you submit to agencies or publishers. A copy editor will look for grammar and punctuation issues but will not do deal with structure, narrative, pacing-type things for fictional works. Depending on how good your grammar and punctuation skills are, you may not need a professional to look at it first but it's always a good idea to have someone else look at your work before submission to help clean it up and make it as tightly written as possible.

Publishers typically don't care what kind of editors you hire before submission; they're only interested in the quality of the work you're sending to them no matter how you got there. If it's accepted, it'll go through their own in-house editing process anyway.

I wouldn't worry about an editing agency stealing your work at all.

Online marketing has its own benefits but if I could get the book accepted by a good publisher it's a whole new ball game.

First of all, congrats on your first book

I used to write a lot on Teen mags from just the age of 9. I know that sounds weird Thanks to my family, in my Grandpa's house, there was a huge collection of books, and I started reading Thrillers just from the age of 7!

Left writing in the darkest corner of my heart as I need other things to be done.

Ok, a few things.

For non-fiction books, here's how the process usually works: (BTW: there are as many paths to getting published as their are writers BUT, in general, there are a few universal things to be aware of especially if you're dealing with agents and big-name publishers.)

1. Author submits a query to an agent asking if s/he is interested in representing the book you're planning on writing. Be prepared for a lot of rejections. Getting an agent is hard for nearly everyone.

2. Once accepted by an agent, she'll work with you to put together a proposal to submit to publishers. The proposal summarizes what the book is about, provides a table of contents, gives supporting data (competing titles, your marketing plan), and gives you an opportunity to showcase your platform. Sometimes a sample chapter or two is included but that often depends on the publisher's preference.

3. Once your proposal is ready, your agent will shop it around to suitable publishers. A good agent will know which publishers to target and, hopefully, will have good relationships with the editors at those publishing houses. The process of submission and waiting for replies can take a few weeks or many months. Something to note here: For non-fiction books, the full manuscript usually isn't shopped around. For fiction, the book must be complete before getting an agent or publishing deal.

4. When a publisher accepts a proposal, the agent will negotiate a contract with the publisher on your behalf. Once the contract is signed by you and the publisher, you'll be responsible for delivering the full book. The time frame for manuscript delivery varies from publisher to publisher.

As for payment (though you didn't ask for about it, I like to warn potential authors), advances are usually paid in thirds. 1/3 on signing of contract. 1/3 upon acceptance of the finished manuscript. 1/3 when the book is released.

Quality, for most publishers, means:

1. Is the writing style clear and engaging?
2. Is the material well-researched and supported factually?
3. Is the manuscript free of blatant copyediting problems?
4. Is it well-edited for clarity, information flow, consistency?

Unfortunately, I can't recommend an editing firm. It's not something I've had personal experience with.
