Any problems with using a brand in domain name?

Will I run into any problems if I use a brand name in a domain name? For instance...samsungtvs.com? Obviously my big worry is if there are any legal ramifications to this?

You can get in trouble as you are using a trademark without the owners permission and if they wanted to then they could get the domain from you, but then again they might not really care. If you do choose to use a trademark then put something in your footer like "not affiliated with blah blah blah" as it might limit your liability a little as they cannot say you are impersonating them - but either way if they want to then they can take legal proceeding against you, and you will lose, could just be the domain - might be some money.

I am having the same trouble right now as I have a site which has quite a prominent trademark in it. However I am keeping it as it is until I get a warning if that ever happens. I think the chances of you getting found out and depend on how under the radar you stay.

I would stick with it until you get a warning if that happens in and then just stop. You could make a little money in the meantime.

The best thing is to be aware and be careful of the properties/services you attach your domain to before making a name. I prefer and always suggest that it is much easier to create a domain that is easy to remember and open for being brandable in its own right. As far as the brand relevance issue...that is a myth.

Google, ebay, facebook, myspace, twitter, and all the rest prove that.

its common trademark issue but as for legal problems I doubt it, if they ask the domain just give it to them and you can sleep well
