You can choose diversity package. I mean mixed links and high traffic guest posting blogs.
Are you just buying and reselling services to your clients?
If so are you testing these before selling them on?

I guess this would be the best option and it seems less "sketchy". But with guest posts, it's still a hassle time-wise.

Guest posts and niche edits are the way to go if you are going to outsource. Just make sure you find a reputable vendor that posts on real sites with traffic, not PBN'S, Web 2.0's or hacked sites.
Test out different providers until you find good ones.

I've been working with the same PBN provider for the last 2 years and I've always obtained very good results. It's just that, for the future, I'd like to stop using PBNs and was just looking for some ideas or alternatives that people use =)

Depends on the budget, its cheapest to get a placement on public site networks that's why they are pretty famous and sometimes powerful.
Making you own PBN can be expensive af for now.
So if your budget is enough, you can choose safer alternative (guest post + tier 2 pbns) but these usually work in 2-3 months. Yup, SEO is slow af

guest posts are your best bet. Don't cost as much as PBNs and can be equally good (depends on niche and so many other factors). You can get 4-5 good links under $200. PBNs are getting too costly these days as that's the only option left for majority of webmasters. Rest everything has been taken down.
