Let's say you're a female from Chicago/US and you have your site. On your site you start a campaign, saying how you will fuck 1000 random strangers in your penthouse in the period of 7 days, with stops for food and WC. And at the end of sex with every guy you will ask them to donate $50 to help fight Ebola in Africa.
Then you submit a press release and reach out to some bloggers in sites such as Dailymail to tell your story. Imagine headlines:"Fighting ebola with sex, one dick at a time" etc etc....story goes viral and your site gets thousands of links from legit sites.
That's a white hat OP.

On page optimization is white hat. Linking between related sites, when not done to affect rankings is white hat, content marketing is white hat, social media promotion can be white hat.
Video marketing, podcast marketing, and image marketing is all white hat, infographics are white hat, internal linking and siloing are white hat, Brand promotion is generally white hat.
