Any musicians here on BHW?

cool thread! Haha, looks like we've got quite some musicians here in BHW! honestly, I think everyone should at least pick up an instrument. I just think music is a great way to destress, heal wounded souls, and bring people closer together. It's just amazing the things music can do.

i.e, imagine a scenario, peter and jane were out gazing stars at a nearby hilltop. All's quiet, and they were just staring at the stars. That's romantic enough by itself, but imagine having a guitarist plucking a romantic tune at the back. It totally changes the atmosphere, and it makes it so much more easier for Peter to take the action to propose to Jane.

Personally, I play only a lil bit of guitar, but I'm more a percussion and drummer - self trained. Been playing percussion (specifically on timbales, congas, djembe and cajon) for a few years now. I'll usually bring my cajon out with my band and we do some busking during the weekends - covering mostly alternatives genre kind of songs, accoustic version.

music rawks! have anyone ever dreamed about having your own studio at home? Where you have the entire band set, the guitar, bass, keyboards, percussions, drums, mics, amps, recording equipments. I know I sure have..and definitely working towards that with the many methods i'm learning here in BHW :D

I played Trumpet for like a month back in MS before I gave it up. I regret doing that now because I'm into ska...I'd love to pick up the Trombone or Baritone Sax, but I don't think it's worth it now because I'm a Sophomore in HS and don't have an extra $1k lying around.

I was a dj in Chicago for 13 years. A vinyl junkie through and through. Now I am looking to record my own tracks with a keyboard + ableton live/reason. Anyone have any recommendations for a quality midi-controller/keyboard?

That's what's up Zon, are you still in chicago,I'm currently in omaha. Not that far away. Do you have any footage of you DJ'n? What kind of music did you spin?

I have just completed a music production degree.

ppl can hit me up if they ever want any advice on computer music / making music.

Will hope to develop a load of white hat music stuff but looking for some quick cash first.

I'm in Dallas now. Growing up in Chicago I had two musical loves. Industrial/alternative and house music [wbmx & wgci]. We had this place Medusa's where they would spin everything, way before people labeled it 'mash-up'. We also had Wax-Trax records with Ministry, Front242, etc. so my tastes are pretty diverse.

I started spinning mostly underground house but had a few industrial gigs inbetween. Eventually my style ending up mixing all styles together. There is just so much great music to pick from, in every genre.

Of course the purists call me a sellout, but who cares? I can keep places packed with a mixed crowd because they know they will eventually get to hear something they like.

Peace.

Hi All,

I just started a new website of mine. Its based on free guitar video tutorials for newbies really, 70's rock classics sort of stuff. how to play like Jimmy page and blues style. Its not monetised though no adverts or things. Got a free ebook coming next week that I am giving away. that I have actually paid $400 for from article authors (I must be mad) anyway its (just been told to delete my address, oops)would appreciate some feedback.

am I allowed to post my own sites address like that? I hope so, if not moderators please delete.:D

thanks

Ha nice.. I'm a Live user myself. What kind of keyboard are you looking for? If the feel of the keys isn't very important to you, then you should look at the Novation keyboards (the new Automap is pretty sweet). If you don't like the keys feeling 'springy' and 'synthy', then check out the Axiom Series from M-Audio (they just announced an update to them at NAMM in January) or the MPK keyboards from Akai

I loooooooooove playing guitar ....!!!! It's a great way to pick up some chicks!!! I really love it... Guitar is the first musical instrument I have ever touched.

Still I'm learning to play guitar.. But beside that I've to concentrate on my college studies and again doing something BLACK HAT :D

Is there a easy way of learning guitar by yourself? May be with some .pdfs or something like that? :)

Just wanted to say its super cool to see so many people on here are musicians and even cooler to find so many electronic music producers... We should all set up some sort of a collab and see what BHW can bring to the music scene... Anyway I'm a Trance DJ/Producer living in Chicago.. I have a pretty serious studio in my house and am always open to working with others. Also if any of you are serious with your electronic music I do lots of promoting and have several connections to some middle of the road record labels so let me know if you need any help. Last but not least... Does anyone here do mastering? I need to outsource some work since I just don't have enough hours in my days anymore and I'd love to pass that work on to someone here... If not I have some engineers I work with but I wanted to give you guys the first shot since I found this thread.
