I have spent the last 5 months or so learning Java, I've made fairly advanced games and I was thinking of making an app for Android, seeing how Android uses Java for it's apps.

The only way to make money that I can think of is the advertisements on games and some sort of in-game currency that you can also buy. What do you guys think? Has anyone here made apps for iOS or Android?

Making money with apps has more to do with your ability to market them rather than your ability to code them. Unlike other types of software, there is rarely a mobile app that is so unique and the customer really needs it and wants to pay and search for it, it's more in the lines of you having to convince the user that your app would be useful for him - or entertaining or etc.. Basically marketing.

App discovery is a huge problem - HUGE especially after the ios6 update, it's the winner takes it all mentality. Building an app and put it into the appstore is not enough. Building 100 apps and putting them into the app store, still not enough.

Building a high quality app and market it properly, that's the way to go.
