I just got back from the EliteXC show tonight. I was amazed with the finale to the Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson fight. I've never seen someone pop someones ear in a fight. That was fucked up. The videos should probably be on YouTube tomorrow if you didn't catch it on TV.

I think it was a legit stoppage if anything I would have stopped it on the the first site of blood on the ear (the ear was gushing a lot of blood). I don't know how the guy could fight with such a horrible cauliflower ear. Did you see the way his ear flopped all over the place even when he was hit in the face? Don't get me wrong I think Kimbo was on his way to his first loss, but that ear was bleeding like crazy and Thompson wasn't defending the ear. If you notice Kimbo hit him with like 2 more shots directly on the ear.

The fight I thought got stopped prematurely was the championship match over the eye poke. That one really pissed me off, then Smith said he could keep fighting and he looked fine to me. I thought he might even beat Lawler.

I'm thinking they were being very liberal with stoppages because it was their first night on CBS and they didn't want anything to mess up their time in the lime light. If the CBS deal works out they could make a lot of money and afford a lot of much higher caliber fighters.

The girl fight was arguably the best fight of the night.

I couldn't believe Matt Serra's brothers bullshit. He did like a flying leg scissors attempt (or drop kick) or whatever it was and after that he just quit.

I hope EliteXC comes back to Jersey, I've seen all their shows on Showtime, they put on a great, entertaining show. I also hope they got decent ratings so CBS will keep them on. This was my first time going to an EliteXC event and it was a great experience.

I also think they were protecting their prized fighters with a lot of their stoppages. Kimbo, Carano and Lawler are their hyped people and they probably all have long term contracts so that might have helped stoppage decisions.

Kimbo had no MMA experience during that fight. They (kimbo team) didn't "allow" knees i think it was.... during the sean gannon match, atleast they got pissed when sean kneed, i think

I watched it tonight, and it was fkn great. I want to see Kimbo fight Fedor.. lol.. i am drunk!

as soon as i saw his ear.. i knew thats how he would win, it was obvious. that was fkn disgusting..

lol yeah I didn't understand that "no knees" rule during that fight. I mean, Kimbo's a street fighter, right? I guess I could understand the no choke rule, but no knees?? Anyway, yeah I'd like to see Kimbo rematch Gannon, if Gannon is still in action? Give them both 3-6 months to train, then LET'S GET IT ON!

haha, one of the comments to the fight video posted on ebaumsworld.com says "that's what happens when you stop fighting homeless people".. lol

yeah that was a quick knockout Dont count KIMBO slice out of the game yet all fighters lose sometime ......UFC is dominating MMA right now. With elite going out business he may go there if Dana gives him a contract. But I have always been a Fan Of Pride fighting

I liked the female fighters on Elite XC and no doubt competition is always good.....

55 Million dollars is a LOT of money to blow thru........I guess they did not really try to model themselves after the UFC. They really should have.

I love the UFC and frankly, I am glad the WEC also exists. I also enjoyed PRIDE.

Dana was very smart to buy the WEC and has marketed it well. It gives fighters the chance to fight that they may not have had, otherwise.

Fixing or interfering with fighters is NOT cool.

Dana is correct on the idea that the very idea of fight-fixing lead to the downfall of interest and trust in boxing.......

Anyway, I love MMA. I train at American Top Team in Florida and love it. My 2 boys are in Blue Belts in Ju-Jitsu and their program also covers boxing and kick-boxing, so they are getting the best......

Even tonight, my wife and I were a Duffys and the place was packed for UFC 90.....SHE watched the fights and enjoyed them!

I hope that MMA continues to grow and the quality continues to improve.

I know that Bruce Lee would be shocked to see how many of his ideas (that were SO far ahead of the main stream at the time......and to be fair there were others who thought out of the traditional Martial Arts box, as well) are mainstream in MMA training.....

    :)

How many of you watched UFC 90? Man I was so hyped, lost my boner around 1min into the fight.. Silva held himself pretty good, looking forward to either a rematch or another fight here soon..

It sucked. Silva played with him all night. When I watch a fight, I expect to see a fight

Years ago I fought in so-called "light contact" Karate tournaments.....yeah, sure they were light contact.........they always ended up full contact.....I won every match in which I was paired up with someone the same size as me......I am 5'5" on a good day. The problem was that I often had to fight true Light Weights........not fun, but I would hold my own. I kicked plenty of cups in those fights (devastating in the street, but don't always make for points in scoring fights). I never allowed their size to intimidate me.

To answer your question, I train to train. I am past the age to fight in anything like UFC-style venues(although I do look 10 years younger than I am) :)

At my school, there are multiple professional MMA fighters and I love the fact that classes are being ran by people who not only show you how to do it, but actually do it!

I take the UFC classes and plan to get into the traditional Brazilian Ju-Jitsu classes after I get into better shape (working the day job, working the Internet biz, being a father and husband......doesn't leave much time in the day)....I should add that the UFC classed do include Ju-Jitsu, but more for the octagon, as we wear no gi's.

The UFC classes are for ages of 14 and up and are full....it is amazing!

Now, for real life fights (street fights/violent encounters in my day job) I have fought in more than 20 of those. The martial arts saved my life on more than one occasion and I am thankful for it. Fighting for your life is a brutal and intense situation, the real deal happens quickly and is over quickly, in most cases. The problem is that in some cases, someone will end up dead. So, you really need something that mimics the contact and elements of a street fight......MMA training is about as close as you can get and I always hated katas, so MMA suits my tastes in combat sports/self-defense.

ATT had one winner in tonight's UFC and I thought that was cool....I was disappointed with the blow out of Cotes knee.....that always sucks and it did seem that Silva started off slowly, but to be fair to Cote, he did last longer than anyone else thus far........

Silva is one of my favorite fighters, as he embodies the complete MMA fighter and is equally skilled on both the ground and on his feet.

I would love to fight someday in MMA matches and looking forward to it. When i can reach the goal i can live without doing day job i will start training for good. I dont really like the ground fighting, but i think its quite important. Now i only train some korean since in here little town isnt much people = not much to train, tho we are getting boxing maybe since the town they do that are not enough space for the club members.

I was thinking like moving to thailand or preferably china to train traditional shanshou. i know that kung fu have not done well in mma, but if you ask me its becouse not combat sport and the best techniques are ment for killing.

But good luck for your journeys ;P if you ask me 26 isnt that old maybe you should see professional mma fighters charts and see how old they are.
