Alot of energy around this movement.

First, what are everyone's thoughts on the movement in general?

But also, anyone found any creative ways to monetize traffic associated with this movement? (I realize that asking that is very much against what the movement stands for, but figured this was the right board for people to be thinking about that).

Can you please tell me what you mean by "OWS".
!@$#@$#@%$#$!@$%????

Sorry, should have clarified in post. Occupy Wall Street, movement in the US (mostly NYC).

You could content lock some outrageous videos of them doing crazy stuff. Imagine a video of the guy crapping on the sidewalk being content locked. That would have brought some good money. Now they are trying to start riots with the police. Even if you're not capturing actual footage you could create a video with a crazy caption about what these anarchists are doing or go the other way and claim to have actual footage of police brutality.

These people have no money so you can't sell them stuff. A few weeks ago a CPA offer for free sleeping bags would have been great but now that they are being sent home so it won't convert so well. Be creative. There is a lot you can do.

Yea, content locking videos might be good. Is content locking most profitable way? Display ads less $?

Lol at the sleeping bag cpa offer, I like your thinking.

I think occupy gonna win they gonna tax 1% sooner or later, It's strong resistance, but stronger will to change something they hate fox news.
About monetizing I'm not sure that that would work with this type of audience anyway.
They go to the streets if you go to the street on this weather you probably not in lookup for free iphone it's different game.

Yes, that makes sense.

I'm not so much thinking monetizing on people who are actually protesting, but for every person the street there are probably 50 who are watching at home.

Oh and another unique thing is mainstream media is not really covering it, so only way to see most of what's going on is online streams (ustream, etc).

So the question really is how to monetize an existing ustream livestream, or whether it's even possible to even do it.

Well I agree that They don't have major media exposure, but what would their investors say about seeing it monetized that way?

btw I still didn't use Ustream to monetize and there's a big event starting tonite...maybe gonna jump in

Major event has been going the whole day hehe. Main ustream account I've been watching is theother99, other big one is globalrevolution. First guy has been streaming since about the beginning (Spet 17th).

My answer is lower your IQ and sell the dream like any good marketer.

People who cannot express coherent thoughts because the lack them would be great customers if they had money.

1) Become famous rapper and start successful clothing line. Show up at 1 of the events and speak like you're a real supporter. A few days later roll out your "Occupy All Streets" t-shirt...

Woops Jay-Z already did that.

2) Be a fat, rich white guy and pretend you're the common man. Stand behind the protesters. Even show up at the events and speak their language to them that the 1% is keeping them down and you got their backs. Woops, Michael Moore's been doing that and probably gonna release a documentary about it soon.

The media really doesn't like the OWS people and don't really report it unless something exciting happens. Or someone famous shows up then famous people bank off publicity.

I find the most amazing thing about it is how it was handled across the country. New York: Let them camp out for 2 months but were sending Rykers Island released inmates there and probably shooing some homeless in there too. Chicago: Basically gave them a flaming fawk you. Didn't let the camping go on for 1 night, they started arresting for being at the park after dark. Oakland: Was 1 of the most amazing to me. They let them protest and camp out for a bit. But every night it was a battlezone w/ cops charging in and tear gassing them in riot gear. LOL
