Any good (free) discussion plugins for wordpress?

One of the pillars of our business is experimenting to find out what kind of reaction we get from the public.

On one experiment I tried:
1) Open Source Social Networking. (Not enough features, poor selection of themes, poor support)
2) Vbulletin forum (The year 2008 visted me and dumped a bunch of broke losers on our site)

So now I'm looking at creating a basic wordpress blog with discussion capabilities. What's a good, preferably free, plugin?

Buddypress or BBPress is the best. I believe both have free versions.

Thanks but I'm having an idiot moment. Is there a tutorial on either of those plugins because I can't seem to get either of them to do display or do anything.
 
wpDiscuz, Disqus, bbPress
used all of them, and can recommend Disqus for simple commenting, wpDiscuz if you need vote system etc
 
It's a shame about the creator's ban, ema seemed interesting but I don't know if he had hidden intentions
