Any Ferrari Owners here ??

I haven't thought about upgrading to a Ferrari but I currently drive an 09 C4S w/chrono. Such a decision depends largely on long term aspirations and what you would like to get out of the car. Personally, I went for something under $120k (Mine was $105 OTD+TTL, other options were used AM, M5, and used Turbo). I was set on reliability and wanted to also use it as a DD. It's pretty risky to drive a Ferrari or Lambo DD as they are significantly lower and the miles do much more harm. (Rarely will you see a Ferrari with 30k+ miles). In your situation, I would suggest AGAINST getting a used 360 if you plan to keep it for a significant amount of time. Although the depreciation of Ferrari's is essentially nothing compared to typical cars, with the 458 coming out 360s and 430s will drop in price significantly.

What I heard about Ferrari is not good.

Reliability is very bad, they require repair all the time and you'll have a hard job finding a place to do that. + very expensive work-time and parts
If you have money spare and want a car just to drive here and then, or to place in a garage ok. But as "every-day car" it's no good choice.

I'm driving an M5, it's a real great car.
You blow away nearly every porsche and you're pretty equal with the few real powerful ones and most powerful cars.
It's 300+ km/h fast and has NO fucking turbo .. one of the few real engines you can find and looks nice.

But in case you want to order one, you'll have to calculate a good bit more than 120k$ and it's not the best time as a new M5 release is not too far.
The big downside is that you lose ~30k$ within just one year of driving.
A used and good M5 E60 can be found between 45 and 90k.

I'll stay with M BMW, these cars are really save and sporty and one of the best engines ever built.
Of course expensive in terms of insurance (I pay about 4.5k a year) and it drinks >=20 litre of super+ (98 octane) fuel on 100km (60miles?) in average.

But it is reliable and repair invoices are acceptable.
If you like your car and prefer to drive with it every day .. BMW is a great choice.

I wish I would have caught this thread earlier, and I haven't read each and every post, but here is my take.

1. You hear horror stories about Ferrari's reliability for a reason, they are not false (though sometimes exaggerated). If reliability and maintenance cost is an issue, don't get one. However, there is nothing else quite like saying "I own a Ferrari", and they have a great racing heritage and community of enthusiasts. (minus the pricks with too much money who don't know how to drive them). If you don't bring your Ferrari to track days, you're not a real Ferrari owner.

2. A friend of mine owns a GTR, and I've driven it on a number of occasions (on track and off). The GTR is, no doubt, a marvel of automotive engineering. HOWEVER, I am a race driver, and the GTR is NOT A DRIVERS CAR. It's a car meant for middle aged guys who don't really know how to drive fast. As fast and wonderful as it is, there is a huge part of the "driving experience" missing from it. It feels like your driving a family sedan (albeit , the fasted family sedan on earth). If you are a "driver", and since you own an NSX (my all time favorite car), I imagine you are, then the GTR is not for you.

3. If I were spending the money, i'd probably buy a Porsche 911 GT3RS. You certainly get that "I made it feeling", its an absolutely beautiful car, and it could hustle any Ferrari short of the Enzo/FXX on any track with ease.

Hi mate yes I've been in prime for years now , My user name is the same Sweetchuck . I didn't want to ask these question on those sort of forums as you get a lot of "loyalty" mis-information .

I share the same sentiment about the GTR , Its too electronic , I like to feel every linkage

The first thing I do after starting my car is turn the Traction control off "unless its raining"

honestly my opinion on the matter you never know when you will be able to get a deal like this again. You only live once take full advantage of the deal and enjoy yourself. Its a Ferrari bro you can always sell it off to anybody bro trust me at the end of the day its your honest assessment and opinion that matter's so go for it and enjoy it. I know if it was me i would..... but i am more of a lambo guy

There's a couple guys that have ferrari's I know, one personally. I've been to their pads and taken a ride. Probably the most fun I've ever had. But I don't think they want they're names revealed because everyone will rape them with questions.

Way way too many issues. Transmission, clutch, overheating.
Go for an 06+ Gallardo

if you buy a Ferrari you can afford not to worry about the foibles, if reliability is a concern get an Audi R8 or an aston martin. IMO tho Lambos are the car to be seen in, There are so many ferarris here in Liverpool UK that the seem almost common.

I heard the Gallardo goes through clutches every 5k miles or so and at $10k a pop I would have expected to get 80k miles out of my NSX clutch had I not went forced induction

If I were in your shoes there is no way I'd get a Ferrari as a daily driver... hell I'd rent one for 2 weeks or so just to experience the whole "drive a Ferrari" boy dream... but as an everyday driver I'd probably go with a luxury german car... high end mercedes and bmw are very reliable, fast, as well as comfortable daily drivers... and I can only imagine how much fun R8 is in the winter! I drive a b7 A4 though, so I'd probably settle for the R8... but then it sounds like you don't have much of a winter wherever you are

It's still not a Ferrari folks. You don't just buy a Ferrari for the speed or it's damn beautifullness, you do it because a. It'll be a Ferrari and b. because you're passionate about them. For me personally an Audi or BMW could never beat a Ferrari, I could care less about the performance.

Must be a joke thread because Lambos are about THE LEAST reliable car on the market. I'd probably pick up a Kia before picking up a Lambo. Although I will give them a slight increase since they are using the Audi engine in the Gallardo, still very unreliable and outrageous (probably more than Ferrari) maintenance costs.

Of course like everyone has said throughout this thread, there are several cars that are faster, several that are better in the mountains, several with better and more comfortable of a ride. If you can swing it go for the F430, it is about as near flawless a car that I have driven when combining all factors. I assume the 458 Italia is going to be ABSOLUTELY flawless and I would love to see one in person, as well to drive an Evoluzione FXX or 599XX supposedly Ferrari is calling those "research cars" for F1 but I think it's because they are going to launch an F-70 around 2011-2012, probably closing in on 1,000HP, I mean after all who else is going to rival the soon to be released Porsche GT1 that is at 1,000HP??!.....Back on topic though. The 360 I have been behind the wheel of, the only issue I have with it is the harsh shifting even for a mid priced exotic, and (my opinion) lacks some power.

The thing about Ferrari though, is that you buy your way into a lifestyle...a family. Like you said, it is one of those accomplishments that you can say you have driven and owned one of the greatest cars made on the planet. If you want to go out and smash everyone get a CCXGT or maybe a Zonda-F. You'll smoke everyone within eye-shot, however, how many people do you know out bragging that they own a Pagani or a Koeniggsegg? Tell someone you own a Ferrari...and you own the room.

Best of luck in whatever you choose to do. Sounds like no matter how you slice it you are in a position to end up with a great ride.

Die hard Ferrari fan here as well. Comparing Ferrari to anything, apart from real proper exotica is laughable. A Ferrari is as close to a racing car on the road as it comes. It also has a pedigree only matched by Alfa Romeo.

If you're after a 360 i'd advise having at least as much as the purchase price in the bank that you're prepared to burn though maintaining it. You probably won't, but there's always unexpected problems and even tiny, tiny problems can be very, very expensive.

The engines are good if looked after, but tyres are super expensive if you get Potenzas or P Zero Rossos. Servicing is Main dealer only, but in the Uk there are a few specialist places that'll do major services for about half Ferrari's prices, but the prices are still evil.

The 360 also swaps ends quicker than fly and will eat you if you're a bit boisterous.
