I am interested in a domain that expired two weeks back. It seems that the earlier owner has not deleted the domain from his account. So, I am thinking of using the domain buyback feature.

Godaddy charges some $69 for buyback and name.com some $49. Do they refund the money if the deal doesn't go through and is there any cheap registrar for buyback that doesn't charge as much as the above two.

Not sure what each company's policy is as far as refunding the fees if the deal doesn't go down, but if you're really interested in a name don't try to save on cost of acquisition. If it's valuable, spend the money to get it. Many of the drop/catch companies work with or are subsidiaries of various registrars. Your odds of snapping up an expired name are better if you use the right one. Also, if you haven't already, you should check around and see if it's up for auction/sale anywhere (the name's current registrar's aftermarket service if they have one, tdnam, sedo, etc.).
