Any downside to turning off comments and ratings?

That's for YouTube.

I was wondering what effect this has on the number of views you'll get. Does it matter? Right now I've given my videos five stars from other accounts and then turned off ratings and comments. So my videos have only 1 rating each, which is five stars. Wondering if this gets penalized in YouTube's internal search algorithms, and so on. Does anyone have experience with this?

I don't know how much of an effect it would have, but it certainly wouldn't help the video sustainably grow over a long period of time. I've seen a lot of very popular videos with Comments shut off just because too many morons were commenting, so I don't think it would hurt it too bad, but if the video isn't already popular, I don't know if it'd be a good idea.

you could maybe argue that the comments help build relevance to the video's keywords.

Yeah, unless the Comments are nothing more than a bunch of douche-nozzles calling each other "fagz" - which is what 75% of all YouTube comments wind up being. The average users on YouTube are so f-ing dumb it's funny.

If i am spamming a video with fake views, and the video itself isnt that good i usually make a couple fake votes and then disable it so it wont get any bad ratings due to the quality of the video.

I am not aware of the effect this has with the algorithms, it probably doesnt look good to have a video with ratings disabled so fast. But then again, it could be legit if it was a racy subject and you wanted to turn it off.
