Rent in Singapore is pricier than rent in 99% of the world. Food is cheaper than back in the US, everything else feels the same. While food and rent in Malaysia are cheaper than in the US, electronics and most brand names are pricier.

In America, I had sports cars... In Singapore I have a Honda Civic that costs way too much... cars are that expensive here.

I also ride motorcycles here and bikes are so expensive that people actually import American Harleys and just pay the duties and import taxes and it's somehow still cheaper than buying locally.

The biggest difference between being here and in the West is everybody I know dealing with the US and Europe are scaling back their operations while here everybody is still ramping up.

move from my hometown to Australia now in bali.
Life being pretty good, try to make some more money and move to other places.

Sorry, didn't notice your post before. I'd say in Sri Lanka it's safer to walk around at night than in Poland. Wouldn't say the same about India, half of social media is furious about rapes and killing happening there, I wanted to visit India for a visa run but after learning that no way in hell I'll go there. Sri Lanka is fairly safe... I'd say I'm more dangerous than most locals, lol. They're not very aggressive (I am, lol, they're disturbed by this xD), I didn't had problems with pickpockets either. The only real problem is tuktuk scammers, I just fuckin can't with these. Use Uber or local equivalent PickMe because if you go with random taxi/tuktuk you find they'll make sure you loose all money you have on you, never saw taxi scams so hardcore in my life, huh.

Srilanka is a beautiful country no doubt. I have been there a few times.

Fortunately India isn't as they portray on social media right now. Yes it is unfortunate the crimes reported on social media.

(I don't want to hurt anyone/emotions right now and again I understand it's hard for the victims)

But if I can add, statistically speaking the numbers are less and india is pretty much safe to wander around safely for the most parts(just avoid the bad places). For example am in Chennai, India. The streets in the night are patrolled by cops in the night and people here are usually soft spoken, shy but helpful. Bangalore is safe, North Eastern india is very beautiful and safe, Himachal super safe, and lot more places.

India is a huge country with good and bad people. Please dont buy the BS they sell on social media. They just want to make money with the viral views and other ulterior motives.

Not currently, but I am considering moving to Dominican Republic for a short time next winter before settling down and getting married.

If anyone is working digitally in the Caribbean, let me know! Would be interested to hear your experience.

I'm from the UK and have lived in a few places, including two years in Dubai, one year in Marbella, and two and a half years in Colombia. I'm really enjoying my time in Medellín, Colombia, but I've noticed a lot of gentrification happening. It was cool being a foreigner here, but since the Americans have arrived, the place has changed. Don't get me wrong—I love my American brothers—but where you find drugs and hookers, Americans tend to follow. There's also been an American death every week here; I don't think they travel well. Nevertheless, I'm looking to make the move to Bali, as I've found that people here are mostly focused on partying rather than working..... But dam i will miss the passionate latino culture.

I don't know, never been there so I don't want to go into an argument and try to prove you wrong, because I don't know what's *actually* happening there. Thanks for mentioning regions, I kinda wanted to ask about it... Is there a difference between regions and are some safer and some more dangerous. After all, India is huge country, it's not just one place. But the thing is, I didn't originally learn this from social media. I wanted to go to India for a week for a visa run (cuz cheap *shrugs*) and my sri lankan friend didn't want me to go, complained about rapists, but without going into detail. My indian friend also didn't want me to go, also during regular conversations complained about how can men look at women like this and that this pisses him off when he's walking with a female on the street. It was all very weird. Then I also had a digital nomad client (woman), she was in India before coming to Sri Lanka. She didn't get raped, but funnily enough... She was sexually harassed by another woman! I was doing ads campaign for her and had a little too few people in the target group, I asked if I can add India to targeted regions and she was like NO and started complaining about stuff. All of that was before I saw yt vids about rapists going in groups (so not just 1 or 2 people but whole fuckin group, making it unsafe to go around even with another person because they'll outnumber you...) and actually killing people after, ripping their insides, attacking both locals and tourists. I'm absolutely shocked, because I actually like yoga/vedanta/tantra and ayurveda, who knew the actual country is so unsafe? No way in hell I'm going there, you need to get your shit together first. Hell, even read news about indian airline IndiGo adding some anti-rape security feature on their planes... Seriously? Rapists rape on the plane, before the plane lands even?? Come on...

I hope you get this sorted and it will be possible to visit in the future but for now, from tourists perspective, it's not a good destination.

Ahhh damn, my posts are very chaotic, I just reply in random threads here and there in the lounge, especially 'it's friday' threads. I didn't really try to sort it in some way, usually people that spend time in the lounge see them, then they get lost under all the other stuff.

However when I look at the statistics

Foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) is projected to grow 19.59 percent YoY in 2024 and it's been on upward growth post covid.
Honestly % wise the crimes in India are way lesser than most tier 1 countries.

Yes it depends on the city, location you travel to. Chennai, Hyderabad, Mysore, Bangalore, Himachal, North Eastern indian are safer. Plus depends on the area you are in.

For example when I was in Lille for a year, I found most of the places safe expect when ventured into certain neighborhoods where there were drugs(some parts of Vieux Lille, Gare Lille Flandres) I simply avoided those neighborhoods.

For me I personally find my hometown Chennai and Bangalore my top two favorite cities to live in.

In Europe I felt Amsterdam was the safest place to be in followed by Lille. I had nice deep conversations with the locals there, especially the boomers.

Overall I find SE Asia (Singapore and Bali to be the safest place to live in) this is based on my current travel experience.
