So, is there any classical music lovers here amongst us? :)

I am only 20 years old, and since I started listening to classical music I have been mocked by friends and family, because none of them understand it, or have exposed themselves to it properly. I listen to every genre imaginable, but I am really starting to enjoy classical .. I was a full blown metal head growing up, and I still am a little bit :D

I am new to the genre, so I have only been listening to the more famous pieces by Mozart, Beethoven and Bach, so I would love some more recommendations!

I'm also a metal head, hip hop head, dubstep, but I love classical too!
I like getting metal heads and hip hop heads that hate classical to enjoy something I play
for them. This music usually works for classical haters. I got into after I read it was John Coltrane's favorite.

Thumbs up!! .. Me too! I like any type of music, as long as it is good .. I can go from listening to heavy metal, to pop, to classical, to reggea, all in the space of a few songs .. It's better to be open minded with music :)

Wow, a kindred spirit. One of my favorites is "Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major" (called the Emperor Concerto, I remember it from a bugs bunny cartoon in my youth) BY Beethoven. especially the rondo, the last movement, and the Presto Agitato from the Moonlight Sonata

If you like the violin, and haven't listened to Vivaldi, especially "the 4 Seasons", its a treat. Anything from Puccini. You know him even if you do not realize it ("La Boheme, Tosca, Madame butterfly"). You almost have to have a fireproof violin to do Puccini justice.

Check out Mendelssohn too (Andante Cantabalie), and Sibelius (his violin concerto is terrific, it will make you weep.), oh and of course Mozart's "the marriage of Figaro", Ravel;''s "Bolero", and Bizet's ":Carmen" are musts.

Agreed I love Chopin's Nocturnes

I love Bach's Cello pieces as well

Then of course Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy and many more

Same!!! As long as it's of quality, I definitely appreciate it. My main focus in life is music, I went to performing arts grade schools and majored in Music Business in college.
 
It seems like young guys can get into old music, but older guys don't really dig the new stuff.

An older gentleman was complaining about how electronic music doesn't require any skill, not like back in the day when "people actually had to play their instruments."

I had to explain that writing custom arpeggiated scales and shaping sine waves and layering filters to a specific count is the new way to play your instrument..
 
I'm into classical music too but it's Indian classical music. Different from Beethoven and Mozart but I suppose they all touch your soul the same way. I'm learning the Mridangam (a south Indian percussion instrument) these days and it feels absolutely awesome!
 
Watch the movie Amadeus. It's about the life and death of Mozart. Very inspirational!! I also recommend the movie The Red Violin.

For all the indian classical lovers, check out Philip Glass. He is an American composer trained by Ravi Shankar. There is actually an album where both Shankar and Glass composed together, a good mix of the east with the west.
 
Bach & Jazz... what more can one ask? :D

Both very entertaining movies :) Especially Amadeus is very funny at some points :D
 
justin bieber. he is the most classical singer of this generation. 10 bach's have to die just so a bieber can be born. mozart wishes he had as much swag as bieber. #yolo
