I have a stock 1st gen macbook running vmware fusion and although Im please that I can run both OSX & Windows 7 at the same time, needless to say I need a more robust machine.

So what do you guys recommend? I already maxed out my memory w/ 3gigs. I would rather just upgrade HD than to buy a brand new comp...so what do you BH mac users recommend for a harddrive or other upgrades to run the defacto windows based tools?

I had the exact same machine about a year ago. I decided to buy a new macbook pro since I couldn't upgrade the memory beyond 3gig. The processor itself would be enough, but not being able to go beyond 3gig in ram was a real show stopper, at least for me. I can't really think of any other upgrade that would benefit you.

Why don't you make use of a VMS? that way you can run all the software you want without needed a bulky machine?

yea i got the same thing....slow as hell. can't wait to get a PC, probably from ibuypower

after that i'll probably get a windows VPS or something

I have a MB 13" and I'm running my own Win VPS through LogMeIn. Great setup :)

I bought a MB Pro 13" last year and upgraded from 4gb to 6gb ram, changed the hdd to a solid state hard drive which is incredible. I will be buying a new tower at some point though to all of these windows based tools 24/7 and just use remote desktop to manage it through my MBP.

how did you max it out that easily? I'm raping my mac with all sorts of stuff open + VMWare fusion 24/7 on a 2.4GHz/4GB setup and it is great.

I have a Mac Pro setup as a mediacenter for all my movies.
I installed Win 7 through parallels and are launching all my windows apps on there.
Mostly use it for scrapebox. It runs quite nice with 2X2.66 ghz and 8GB Ram, and i use Apple Remote Desktop to control it from my Macbook Pro.

As an owner of both Mac's and PC's, i have four words for you...

Buy a new PC!

You can buy a new HD and spend 100 bucks, or buy a barebones desktop with significantly better hardware for only 250 bucks more... maybe less. Make the plunge, buy a new computer.

Dear Mother of God! That is a beast of a machine you have there.

The picture of your cooling fan looks like it should be under the hood of a '57 Chevy Chevelle!

Don't change anything except the hard drive!

Get a 250GB OCZ vertex SSD - This is in my late 2008 dual core 2.4 Ghz MBP 15in.

It's so fast you won't believe it.

I typically have 50-100 chrome windows open...

VMS? You mean VPS right?

I was thinking of getting a mac but I would need to hook up to a virtual Windows machine to run my tools.

just get parallels and run windows 7, it's almost at full speed...
