Hi,

I just started a humor website, and I was wondering if you have any tips on how to promote it.

So far, I write an article each week. I promote it on Facebook, Twitter and Google +. I also write a haiku everyday and promote it likewise. I also create a funny image/meme everyday and promote it. Since the main attraction of the website is the articles, I don't see a reason to create a blog.

I want to monetize it, but I think I need to build a bigger audience first.

Any tips? I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Yes, you can call me a noob if you want to.

I'd recommend Tumblr for that kind of content. It would be very suitable for the type of stuff you're promoting (assuming that you're actually funny :P). You should be posting something every day on Tumblr if you decide to use it.

What's you're current strategy for growing your FB and twitter following?
 
Have an exchange of service between you and FB fan page owners.
Contact the owners of FB fan pages with thousands of followers.
Offer your content writing service in exchange to post the link of your work to their fan page.

I think image based promotions works fine with you instead of articles. For example; you can work on Google Images searching optimization for caricatures and cartoons.
 
For humor like website, you can make a fb page and post your content dere. Second is you can show the humor through comic strategy and targeting other humor sites that give chance to newbies.

I work in the entertainment industry and I know that most comedians/improv' guys and girls work to build a massive social media presence. If you're funny and proud of your work, I would say reach out to someone on twitter to see if you can get a retweet. Also, they do guest blogging all the time. Just reach out to the community. If you're good, you'll get noticed.
 
Depending on the type of pictures that you have, don't forget about Pinterest as well. If you have funny jokes, think about putting them as a quote on an image and posting it to Pinterest.

You should increase your article count to at least one per day; and that would barely just give you a push. You said that this is the main attraction of your website, so I think that it's rather important to have fresh daily content.
 
Great work so far, it's good to see that your actually putting work into growing something and taking action. Keep building your quality content, monitization comes last. Did you implement a newsletter yet?
 
I'd recommend that you carefully optimise every page for a a few different keywords, especially long tail. There are some great articles about increasing traffic by optimising your pages. Before writing articles spend some time on keyword research. You'll have a better chance of ranking them!

Thank you, I have a Tmblr account for the page, but I haven't used it yet. I don't really have a good strategy for FB or Twitter. In both of them, I post a haiku and a funny image every day, a new article on Saturdays, and a link to an old article every Monday and Wednesday.

Well, I like to create my own images. I did notice that I started to get more likes and shares when I started posting images. How many images a day should I post?

Thanks, but the main reason I am doing this is to have a place to show my writing. It's a personal thing. I do incorporate images now and it gets me more likes.
 
get on one of those old people's email lists. Those geriatrics have nothing better to do all day long than to spam all their friends with humorous, anti-Obama emails, etc...

I do have a FB page where I post the content. I will try your suggestion of targeting some other humor sites. I didn't understand what you mean by "comic strategy", would you please explain that a bit more?
