Any advice for a newbie?

Hi guys I just joined the site my friend reffered me. Recently I had a website designed for my plastic injection molding business. Since its been on the web I have been doing a some reasearch and found that the site is not really doing much good. So I decided to build a new one on my own. The biggest question on my mind right now is what keywords are people using to search for my industy. Is there a free way to find this out im on a very limited budget.

Could someone post some good links about seo that someone new like me could gain anything from? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

look for search terms that do not have a lot of competition. You will be able to rank for them much easier.

I am still relatively new to SEO myself, but I did find Get to the Top on Google: Tips and Techniques to Get Your Site to the Top of Google and Stay There a really useful and helpful book to read as it covers everything from generating keywords to meta data and everything else that you will need to help the ranking of your website.

Keep on reading here AND do the things you learn! You will earn money! For the start you could do some e-whoring for example, so you have some money to start with (for domains, hosting etc.).
 
Perhaps your original site was fine but just lacked promotion? By all means go for some ppc is you have the experience and budget. But if you want to start on the cheap try some article marketing, backlink building, etc.

Make sure your original site at least has a description and some decent keywords.
 
Select 5 keywords first and try to optimize them.
Better is to start with long tail keywords which will be quick to come up.
After achieving good ranks on long tail keywords, move on to the shorter ones which will already have some juice from the longer ones.
