We all have WH sites, and I am no different, I have a WH shareware site, well its not doing very well but im getting there sloooooooowwwwwwlllllyyyyyyy..

so I have 2 sites to which I compare myself, one is www.tech-pro.net this site was my inspiration and it got me started into shareware, before starting my website I contacted the owner of tech-pro, Julian Moss and told him I was starting out, so how was the shareware business, should I start??

He replied a long and helpful email [surprisingly] and in that he mentioned that he is making $10,000 per month with that site, after hearing this I was like :eek:

he does not even have enough products in every category and he does not even come up on page 3 of the SERP.

the other site is www.soft32.com . I did not contact him but he comes up as number 1 on every shareware keyword, so I know he must be doing good, also he has hundreds of products in every category.....

any explanation guys??????

Explanation about what? Why one site is doing better than the other?

yes, the site tech-pro is doing so well even without having such a large databse of products as compared to soft32.

so for my shareware site should I emphasize on quantity of products like soft32 or shud I hit SEO hard and promote my site with little products to choose from

Well . tech-pro has about 300 pages indexed on Google while soft32 has 291,100 pages indexed!

tech-pro has 94 sites linking in - soft32 has 5,560 ...

I'd copy the style of tech-pro and the SEO of soft32!

if it was only that easy, so what exactly is the SEO of soft32 :)

Actually I'd say stay away from the freeware/shareware niche... It's been done to death already...

softpc SEO ...
Well I'd start first looking at your SEO and working on that - without knowing your site name I can't really comment.

Then I'd identify the keywords you are targetting and look at what sites come up on page 1 of Google, and look at what they are doing (metatags, link titles, image names etc etc - standard SEO stuff).

softpc look to have a RSS feed on their home page which is good for search engine reindexing, plus excellent navigation (a spider trap), the related products list after each product is good - more spider trapping ...

What is your site missing that these are doing ...

Well, I just looked at the sites, techpro looks way better than soft32 and I've noticed this: when you resize tech32 at 1024x768, the right side banner COVERS the navigation pannel and the Adsense area below (in Firefox 2). In fact that banner covers everything on the page if you continue lowering the size of the window. I guess this is BAD, huh?!

Send me your URL and I'll have a look at your SEO and make some suggestions ...

Metropol ... Unfortunately most people still only design for IE ... and to be honest, I'm playing catch up designing sites that work in all (well most) browsers ...

I have a similar problem - one of my sites which is properly built with 100s of indexed pages and 2k backlinks is on #2 for its main keyword.

On #1 I have a retarded blogspot with only one page (4-5 posts)! So irritating knowing that only because it's on blogspot it has more of an authority. And it's not because of the backlinks because I have more and better, more related than him.

Mine is also better SEOd in my opinion as he has lots and lots of similar pages (archives, rss, etc. - all the junk blogger leaves behind).

Hey Minim! Be delighted that you have 1 and 2 spot!
Now go and grab 3,4,5,6,7 ...

For some keywords ... I have 8 of the top places ...

and yes ... it is a pain when all that hard work only gets you to number 2!
