Hi again, it's me obiwan69 here again with another newbie question. The past week or two I've spent several hours everyday reading different topics here on BHW and I've gained some very valuable knowledge. So basically I'm wanting to make a large website since most of people don't succeed making real authority websites. The category or niche that I want to rank up has some competition however by looking at the top 10 sites on Google, the top 7 are really poorly designed even though this is a pretty big market I believe it is possible to get on the top page with a lot of work and some money (got a couple grand to invest). Let's use for an example car brakes as the niche, I would be selling different brand/kinds of brakes for cars and then there would be reviews + articles on those brakes, I am also wondering what if I added a brakepedia (like wikipedia) with a bunch of information about different brakes how would that work for SEO? Thank you for taking the time to read this hopefully it made some sense, dont roast me too hard:eek:

Also does it matter if you have a c00m or a n33t domain extension, bhw wont let me type it out properly:( Does it affect seo in any way?

I think you will do well if the content is original. I never worry about competition - competition is good as there is a market.
You just have to find a way to do it better.
    good luck

First of all just because the sites are badly designed doesn't mean the niche is low competition, looks can be deceiving this is why you need to do your keyword research. If you just build a site targeting high competition keywords and don't make anything in 6 months time you'll just get discouraged and give up.

So first thing you want to do is keyword research, look up some guides and then try and look at every keyword in your niche, then pick out the really low competition ones and write content on them.
And I didn't really understand the brakepedia bit? Do you want to make a Wikipedia stile pages on your site or a different wiki site for brakes?

Lastly it doesn't matter both will rank, but preferably I'd get the .c00m

Thank you for that, and yes I'm aware badly designed website doesn't mean that it's a low competitve keyword however this specific niche has medium competition but I reckon it's doable to beat them. I look at this as a long term investment, I want to get big in this niche and it will take me year to reach that point and 6 months is really not a lot of time if you're competing with the big boys at least not for me since I don't have a alot of experience yet. I'm learning more and more everyday and figuring out more things, I know that I still have a lot of research ahead of me before I actually start investing into this.

    - Yes the brakepedia would be like wikipedia just to store a bunch of information just wondering if it would affect my SEO in a good way or not. The .c00m domains are tricky to find for this keyword however there are neeet ones available.

Well if brakepedia is on your site it could be a nice reference, and if it's comprehensive and helpful people will link to it and it shouldn't be a problem for SEO as long as there's content there. As this is in the white hat section I'm guessing this site will be white hat? So when you do your keyword research, find and group all the keywords, use the easiest first. Then try and spend at least twice as long promoting your content as you did writing it, as you need links to get it to rank and if you did your keyword research well it should rank pretty quickly and start making you money straight away.

whitehat/greyhat, kinda want to bend the rules but not too much also is it true that SSL certification is something google looks upon and would potentially give me a boost?

The website that is #2 on the first page only has 10 backlinks, however they have one really valuable article, written by theguardian, the other 9 are trashy imo. It is a 2 billion dollar market and grew 50% during 2010-15 so if I can get on the front page I'm hoping to
    bank some money.
