Hey guys, wasn't sure where to post this exactly but I'd like to see if anyone is in the same scenario as I am right now. Mine is a bit different than most C&D posts that I've seen related to FB/IG.

I guess I'll begin by saying the definition of a cease and desist:
"A cease and desist is an order or request to halt an activity and not to take it up again later or else face legal action. The recipient of the cease-and-desist may be an individual or an organization."

So about 7-8 months ago i sold a website with the word instagram in the domain name. At the time the site wasn't making much money. Maybe a week later I got a cease and desist from FB/IG about the domain name which I no longer owned. I complied with their requests as far as shutting down all domains that they had trademarked, giving them the method in which I was promoting the accounts, and even giving them the new owners information after him giving the okay. Apparently he had connections within FB/IG and he wasn't worried he said. FB/IG lawyers gave me the okay and told me that everything was fine. They even thanked me and told me they appreciated my cooperation with them.

Anyways, just this past week after 7 months of no connection to the domain/website I get an email from the same law firm (Perkins Coie) about the same domain name. The email started off accusing me of still working with the new owner of the website...which I honest to God haven't done at all. In fact, I blocked him on skype because he seemed like a nut job. I haven't even spoken to him in at least 5+ months. Further on down in the email they ask me for all the same information that I already gave them initially. Than, they go on to add that they want all of the earnings I made from the domain name......The domain name that I didn't even own when they sent me the cease and desist to begin with...???

Am I seeing this the wrong way? I have been told at least 3-4 times by them I'm fine and they've thanked me, yet they keep coming back trying to get money or something out of me. I've obviously ceased a desisted by now. It honestly feels like it's just threats and harassment at this point. I'd really appreciate any input someone might have on this all.

good for you mate. not to be sarcastic but if you, any of us, are without legal action you are not trying for bh. you are doing great.

now though, these people should not be harassing you, you can get an attorney and they will probably stop at that.

I guarantee you someone spoofed and email and they one tried to get the domain for free, then they got your method which you shared with them, now they're trying to get money from you. I've seen this a thousand times, you have to look in the email code.

The lawyers are probably doing this on their own will. Since you was so nice and generous the first time they probably think you're a sucker. Tell them to fuck off and go on with your life. Unless you were making $x,xxx, xxx amount of dollars, it would be useless for Facebook to sue you

I thought the same thing at first, but it is from their official law firm email address. They do represent facebook and instagram too. I tried the phone numbers they left before, and they're legit. The method i told them was only fiverr, so it's not like they learned anything crazy haha.

I should add that they want me to sign some document saying I won't do it again. I have no desire to sign it when they keep contacting me months after they said everything was fine demanding more things such as information/money. I could see myself signing it, than them coming up with more bs and taking me to court over it.

I wouldn't sign anything they sent me without an attorney looking it over...

dont sign anything, just forget the email they sent you. they emailed me a load of years ago and I never got back to them, they didnt email again.

Just send a registered letter back saying you have addressed all of their concerns before and for every letter they send you again you will charge them a $150 admin fee. Add the line 'by sending me more communications you agree to the payment terms'.

If they send something that means they have read it, agreed and sending you more :)
