Another canonical BS

Hi guys,
Sorry for such a noob question but I have never had such issues before
I 've just modified my post's title and slug and submitted in GSC just like many times before.
But this time I got that dreaded "Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user"
But there is only ONE post the same as before.
Tried to specify canonical in Yoast to no avail

Any solution to this?

you probably want to do 301 instead of canonical.

Canonical tags are used for prioritizing pages that are identical / similar (so, when you have at least 2 pages that are identical / similar), but it sounds like you only have 1 page because you've just edited the only 1 that you had (on a certain topic I mean) which means that you've changed its title and URL slug (like you said), but it's still 1 page. If that's the case, 301-ing the old URL to the new one is what you're looking for, not canonicalizing it.

No worries, even seasoned pros face these oddities. A few things:

Internal Links: Ensure internal links are pointing to the new slug and not the old one.

Redirects: Double-check if you've set up a 301 redirect from the old slug to the new one. Helps in clearing confusion.

Re-check Canonical: Even if you've set it in Yoast, inspect the page source to make sure there's only one canonical tag.

Wait: Sometimes, Google's just slow to recognize changes. Give it a week or so after doing the above.

Had a similar hiccup with a site migration last year. After double-checking everything and waiting a bit, the issue resolved itself. Patience is part of the SEO game, mate.
