Another Amazon Affiliate Journey

Hello. I've been on this site for a couple of years now, earning a few bucks here and there, but I'm giving it a more serious go now. I've chosen amazon affiliate as I've already earned a decent amount from them and want a more stable, long term income than some of the more temperamental things such as PPI. I'm funding the initial investment in this from the earnings of another project I had going on, around $100 now and a bit more than that in a months time, so I can start things fairly quickly.

As I suck at SEO I decided to outsource the niche research to andres1986 as your niche can make or break your site. He delivered a couple of hours ago and I'm very pleased with it. I will build a site consisting of 10 product reviews and 10 more general articles, I've ordered the product reviews from NatashaNixon already and will write the general niche articles myself over the next week.

As for traffic I'm not going to rely too much on google. I'm terrible at off-page SEO so I'm going to rely on my keyword, article quality and on-page SEO to get me some traffic from google. I'm going to focus most of my efforts on actually driving traffic through backlinks on other authority sites such as niche-related forums and comments on some popular articles.

My plan is relatively simple. Until my articles are delivered I'm going to focus entirely on getting my site set up as good as I can and then focus on driving traffic. In a month or so's time I will look into setting up a second site.

Didn't get a chance to do too much today as it was late when I started and the nameservers took an age to update. I bought the domain, setup wordpress and created the basic visitor pages. Tomorrow I'm going to make a decent start on the articles, I've never been very good at them but I intend to finish at least three.

I've been surprisingly busy over the last couple of days so I've only gotten around to uploading 2 well-written articles. I've got enough free time tomorrow to do a lot more though.

Managed to do more work today but I struggled quite a bit with the articles. After writing 1 long, high quality article which I think I'll make my homepage I pretty much gave up and focused on the on-page SEO. Since I'm struggling with the articles I've ordered 5 more cheaper ones based on my secondary keywords for $18. I've used these guys before so I know these will be decent enough quality, if not as good as Natasha.

The one's I've bought have all been 500. The one's I've written have been 500, 700, 1000.

I have just started an Amazon site myself and am considering a journey thread to keep myself motivated and focused.

Do you mind me asking what NatashaNixon's rates are for reviews and what you think of the quality of them? Do they require any editing for the money site or are they good to go?

That's the plan.

Natasha charges $1.50 per 100 words for reviews, so a typical 500 word review is $7.50. They're pretty much good to go but you should give them a quick look before uploading them, a couple of mine mentioned an exact amazon price. I like them, they're good enough for this type of niche site but they're not exactly newspaper quality.

Update:

Natasha delivered the articles yesterday and the site is pretty much set up now. I still want to do a bit more inter-linking and tweaking but it's ready for visitors now. Webmaster tools says it's already indexed a few of my posts but it's not showing any impressions yet. Tomorrow I'll start working on backlinking and getting some real traffic into the site.

Weekly update

Been caught up with stuff this past week so I've only made a few more backlinks and scheduled my last 5 articles to post over the next month. I've not had any real traffic yet but google has indexed my site, I'm getting around 12 search impressions a day and I'm beginning to rank for one of my secondary keywords.

Did quite a bit more backlinking this week but they don't seem to be working very well. Previously I've got thousands of hits from this method but it doesn't seem to be working anywhere near as well this time, perhaps it's the niche? Either way I'll keep going for another two weeks but if I don't start getting more results I'll switch to more traditional methods like web 2.0's. Still I have been getting some traffic and impressions are going up, though my rankings are still in the 100s. Strangely what little organic traffic I have been getting seems to be mainly from Yahoo and I'm beginning to get some semi-decent rankings on bing.

Weekly update.

Not much to say this really. I didn't make anymore backlinks this week due to a couple of deadlines. I'm seeing a very small rise in SERPs and a small rise in impressions and organic traffic.

Given up on the method that wasn't working. Falling back to good old web 2.0s now.

The site is still around and, very slowly, improving. It is still dancing around the google graveyard for most of my keywords, impressions and traffic are also slowly increasing though still not at meaningful levels.
