I need to automate android (actions in the browser). But ADB is not an option for me for a certain reason.

Is there a way to automate android without adb?
I would prefer to run the bot on the mobile phone

Espresso?

Might be far fetched but you could try using a screen sharing app that lets you take control of the other device and use the automation that way, But it will be a sketchy way of doing this

Are you wanting to run it on a PHYSICAL phone, or is some form of emulation alright?

You could also look into something like Appium - https://appium.io/
