****** and Amazon - Be Warned!

Just incase anyone is thinking of trying out a method involving ****** and promoting Amazon products.....I wouldn't!

Just had my 3 year old Amazon account shut down after 2 days of traffic to an Amazon product. No warnings, nothing. $300 balance up in smoke.

Yes, I should have read their T&C but I assumed it would have been ok having read about other peoples successes on other (WF!) forums. The irony of it though is the damm thing was quite effective and people were buying up stuff like crazy!

For info - the method involves creating an account on http://******/ which is a link shortner site. When customers shorten a link your ad is displayed in a frame for a few seconds - its very cheap traffic and converts.

Tried it using Clickbank also but results were very poor - but works a treat with Amazon, just the small problem of never getting paid for it so profitablity is somewhat limited....!:eek:

Hey, no problem. It seems as though this thread has already saved 1 Amazon account and thats a good thing!

Just another heads up, they closed my affiliate account with $900+ dollars in it because I had used the name Amazon (trademarked) in an advertisement. Be very careful with them.
 
For affiliation, I think they need the direct url instead, and using url shortner will not generate traffic as it auto generated redirection. Definitely the earnings will go to the url shorter and not on your affiliation.

Thanks for this. I think your getting confused with the method. The aff link is not shortened. An amazon page with your aff link is displayed to the customer when THEY are using the link shortner site.
 
i wold love it if som1 shred were they had success with ****** cuz i never had any...

No - didn't try CPA but to be honest thats because they are even more 'picky' when it comes to traffic like this....rest assured if Amazon have a problem you can be sure CPA providers will!

Hi,
Were you directing the visitors to your own site and then redirecting or you were directly sending them to amazon i.e. the amazon page with your affiliate id was being shown in the ad.

I was using a cloaked redirect from my own domain to the Amazon page. The referral path would have been a page on my site to try and rid myself of the ****** path. I think they saw the peak in traffic volumes and visited the page themselves and saw something was abit strange....
 
So basically you brought advertising on the link shortner site and you stuffed cookie/shown your amazon affiliate link in the ad?

Yes that is against their TOS. Instead of using cloaked URL, you could have used a page with a big arrow pointing to the Amazon page.

Yea - I am not for one minute saying I wasn't a complete dick, cos I should have stopped and thought about it somemore and in hindsight, I would have done something along those lines..!

hhhmmmm, this gives me an idea since ****** is pretty cheap. does ****** allow adult?
