Anchor links in my content? Neccessary?

If my own site has content with kw intense information.. does all those KW have to be links? Surely that looks a bit spammy? Especially if the links are going to the same site??

Can you help

So you are talking about internal links to pages within the site?

Like off your home page to an article about "big red cats" having a link within the text leading to that article?

OR

are you saying every time you mention "big red cats" having that as a link?

To me that does look really spammy, kind of like using the <strong> tag for every time in an article you mention Big Red Cats. If either of those benefit your SEO, I'm not sure by how much. You also have to look at whether people viewing your site will think everything looks suspicious.

If it look spammy then might there be a risk that G. also think it's a spammy site. Just like you can overdo your kw density, then would I consider if you might be overdoing your internal linking.

Yes I can see that this makes a lot of sense so when I create articles on my sites about "big red cats" i only link occasionally to the big red cat section of the site but further mentions of the words do not -

The reason why I ask is that a competitor who is ranking number 1 both has every single anchor text link on every page of their site and it looks really stupid... they also have a spam blog with every entry treated the same way... i.e. every single mention of big red cats is a hyper link.. or variations of it.

It seemed to work for them... this is bad.
 
I guess they are doing something right, it just seems weird that much or any SEO value would be given to that method.

BTW, why do you have a site about big red cats? :p
 
I have looked and apart from DMOZ this is the only strategy they have... blog... spam links in every other word, and a few dozen comment posts, blog posts ...
 
Interesting thought. It sure loks spammy, but do that benefit us that work with SEO?
 
I dont think I would do this just for the users sake.

This might also raise your bounce rate?

I agree with the majority of the sentimens here, being number 1 is no good if you have a 100% bounce.

Maybe you could be more practicle about the internal links, and make up the difference between you and your competitor by beating his backlink strategy?
 
How much older is their domain than yours?

Up to you but I would mimic some if not all of the internal linking on your own site. Then build quality niche specific links back, chuck out a few articles (save the best ones for ezine) again niche specific, using your kw.

Give it 3 Months and see where you are. If you get to 1 then all well and good if you get to first page then just keep adding links and articles until you get to one.

If their strategy is as bad as you say then it shouldn't be too difficult to overtake them, patience is a virtue. A lot of people expect instant results and give up to early.
