I'm a web designer and I've built a ton of websites and want to start linking to my website for a keyword. I try to get a link to my website on every site I built. My question is, should I go back to every website I've built and change the anchor text to the keyword I am going for? Right now it is just the name of my company. Or is it bad to always have the same exact anchor text in every link? It's not black hat so there's nothing fishy going on.

Also, will the fact that the only links I have built to my site are homepage links be negative? Does Google like link diversification on different types of sites? Like blog comments, articles, etc.

You definitely don't want to have all the same anchors going into your site. Google is looking for a natural anchor text profile. A good healthy mix of brand (like you currently have with your company name), URL, topic, keyword, synonyms, misc, etc. The exact ratios are niche specific.

Furthermore, I would never use the same anchor twice, especially if you're an EMD. If you're trying to rank for 'kitten mittens', then use it once and then use "cat gloves" (synonym), 'where to buy kitten mittens' (long tail) from then on out.

Also, will the fact that the only links I have built to my site are homepage links be negative?

Not sure if you're asking if you're building all your links from home pages (which is fine) or if you're only building links to your money site's homepage (not fine).

Some people think so. But tests reveal all. I have sites that rank 100% from web 2.0s.

Furthermore, I never, ever use article directories or blog comments and I rank very well.

Thanks for the answer.

I'm about to redesign my website to be one of those long scroll down landing page style sites. Something like this: http://ante.weblusive-themes.com

There's really not going to be many other pages on the site to link to. Is it really that bad to have all the links point to the homepage?

Well, if you want to rank a site then you won't be going for the "company name" as anchor text unless it is a EMD. Like suggested above .. there are lots of variations you can find out for your anchor text. Where long tail keywords do play an important part.

Yes! but the major aspect of SEO is "Anchor Diversity" in-depth you've to place your links in different format instead of contextual links. Such as Naked Links, Contextual Links and also mixing up with other keywords contextual.

I wont mind for anchor diversion if we keep on following the standard its good by whose standard? by some well known seo people that do seo and write something about the standard, no one can crack the algo of gogle regarding the anchor diversion. so I never listen to anyone, I just do my own anchor diversion as I please and spam the internet.

Go back and change your anchors to your brand name or url and never use exact anchors on all of your links.

I don't even bother using exact anchors anymore because it is so easy to get penalized for. Also, the text before and after your anchors can sometimes be just as important as the anchor itself. Relevant content comes to mind.

I wholeheartedly agree. The golden ratios are always specific to the niche. Some niches I'm in are super conservative and I rank #1-3 with 90% Brand and URL anchors. Others are super aggressive, and my anchor text profile looks like ye olde spam days of 2008.

no

yes

No, but try to build non-homepage links too.

Yes, but be careful with blog comments and other low quality links.
