I'd love to hear some people's views on this one.

As I'm sure 90% of you are now aware, Nelson Mandala has died. It was the same with Paul Walker (Fast & Furious actor) a few days ago.

I noticed right away today somebody had created a Facebook page RIP NELSON MANDALA which was going viral. When I clicked on the page, he'd already created a basic website which was completely plastered with ads, popups, amazon affiliate ads for his books etc. The first and only thing that's been posted on the facebook page was the weblink stating *Leave your condolences on the website* and there's a facebook comment plugin.

Is this wrong? Or does morals not matter when it comes to profit? What's your views?

I could capitalise, exploit and scale the sh*t out of this but there's something holding me back as it just feels wrong.

I would not say so, but it depends on which depths you take it to, to make money from it.

It's just the depths I've described. Facebook page going viral, weblink with ads and affiliate books. Do you think it's fine?

Well I do, I suppose other will not. I just think it become unacceptable where people start plastering shit all over facebook pages like "like this = RIP" and "If you don't like this = you are glad he is dead" and other such things.

Death is always popular, and therefore profitable. Doesn't matter if it's a celebrity, national treasure, or just some random guy who died in an interesting way.

I wouldn't exploit it, but there are a lot of people out there who are morally bankrupt.

I agree man, I couldn't steep that low, not for money or anything for that matter. I'll sit back and keep my moral compas.

I honestly wouldn't say it was steeping low unless you post bullshit articles that discredit him

There are scavengers in nature, vultures and shit like that. Personally I couldn't do it, I wouldn't want to profit from anyone's demise. But it's out there, and it's a matter of judgement really because it's not illegal, so that's that.

Also it's not easy to profit from this sort of thing, especially someone as big as Mandela, the biggest sites will rule all SERPs and social media presence, noone's gonna pay attention to some opportunist publishing a RIP page IMO....

Come to think of it, if not you, someone will definitely make a profit. It's not like his books/work has become public domain. Some publisher will be making a profit with or without your help, so why not you? That's not to say, go make a website about his death and slap affiliate products all over it, but if you're already doing something relevant, then why not?

I agree with OnlineA here man, I could definitely make a killing from this. Especially when scaled as people die everyday. But I also agree with you in the sense I couldn't stand myself profiting from this.

You didn't start the page so why do you care if it's morally correct or not, if you don't think so then move along.... no need to be a judgemental prick of others actions. Fill your time with more productive things than worrying about what other people are doing.

People gain an emotional payoff by leaving their kind words & by having a chance to say goodbye. The owner gains a financial payoff by making it possible. I see two parties winning here, what could possibly be wrong with it? Undertakers do the same thing. Would you consider them evil? Comon...

No he's wrong, instead I think you should gird your loins for war, and march to whatever government center is closest and DEMAND GOVERNMENT ACTION.

Something must be done about this. It's intolerable, the way some people think they can just do whatever they want and get away with it, like our feelings don't mean a thing. They should have more respect for us, and our feelings. Well, after we make a lot of laws with some SEVERE punishment, they won't ever do THAT shit again, those bastards.

I completely agree. Let's start doing something about it. ACT NOW, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.

Like my FaceBook page and show the world how pissed you are at this.

I've certainly participated in questionable acts for profit online but that's an area I won't touch. It's just like trying to profit from the disasters in the Philippines, not something I'm willing to do.

Newspapers would be a better comparison. Because this is exactly what they do. They monetise death, destruction and misery by plastering adverts all around it.

Having said that, I would consider newspapers to be evil.

@WatchAnyShowCom

It's not right. And you know that. Your just asking us so you don't feel like your the only one who feels that way. It is true; that type of thinking (making money off another human being's death) is just tragic. But then again, you can't expect people to be as good hearted as you are. Just as there are good people, there are bad people. I wouldn't take a man's last dollar if he needed it, but some people are different. That's just how the world works (and how comfortable you are with situations like that).

It's important to understand that we humans have no morals. It's just another made up thing.

The whole concept of money is made up by us.

Moral, we did it. Unethical, that's our term too.

When we perceive this world through this lens, there are certainly no regret, anger, and even happiness.

Some of you may think it's ethically wrong to create a fanpage of a celebrity or important person who just died, but now what is "ethical" in this case? Like the old guru says, there is no right or wrong.

(I never believed all this until I followed gurus like Mooji, Demello, Ramana Maharshi preaching these things again and again)

I remember how many people tried to cash in on Michael Jacksons death. I am by no means the most honest person ever and in the end is this a blackhat forum, but this is something I wouldn't touch.
I don't judge those who do, but damn...

i suppose its not any different when the news outlets do it. they make money from ads too
